"Dig Dug is back, but not better than ever"

I saw this game at Odd-Job, a discount tore, for only $5. Being a big fan, I knew I had to get it. So I did, along with Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare. So i installed it and as soon as I saw the menu screen, I could tell I would be disappointed. So read my review and I'll they you the story about a good series gone bad.

Graphics: 4/10
The game was release in 2001 but the graphics look like something from 1996 or '97. The characters are could be much more detailed. And the fact that enemies get jaggies when they are blown up makes it look even worse. The scenes are very simple and could also have used more work, but you won't lose sleep over it. Now, let's move along....

Sound: 4/10
The sound is something much easier to do but Creature Labs still didn't get it right. There are no catchy themes. The main theme is more annoying than catchy. In game, there are few sounds. The sound of digging, blowing up your enemies, and a slight background music.

Controls: 3/10
The controls are maybe the worst thing about this game. You use the keyboards direction keys to move and Ctrl to try and blow up enemies. It sounds easy but the main part of the game is based on a grid. You have to be in the right stop to move or you will automatically move until you reach the stop where you can. This will often push you into enemies. It's really annoying to frequently die because of the game's little problem. At least you can have pride saying you got beat fair and square, right?

Replay Value: 1/10
There is no reason to replay it except to fill the high score chart with your glorious name. But even then, you can fill the high score chart before you even finish the game. Making an online high score chart would have made this game last a little longer but sadly, Creature Labs just rushed every part of this game.

Should you get this game?
If you have $5 and don't have anything to do with it, you could buy it. While it's not great, it will last a handful of hours and bring back memories to fans of the original Dig Dug. But if you haven't played the first one, you have no reason to buy this. If that's you, go buy 5 copies of Big Rigs and brag about how you have 5 copies of the worst game ever made.
