Quake III Arena

"Story mode, where are you?"

Introduction
Usually me and my brother used to play Quake 2 on our lan, so we thought that this game would be much better than the one we previously used for our duels... Truly, we were disappointed...

Gameplay
Unlike the game made before this one, this is mainly for playing online... I mean, it has modes which let you play against opponents controlled by the computer, but those can easily become boring, since the opponent sometimes are quite predictable. Also, I think that a game in which the sole target is defeating lots of people is quite boring, meaning that you won't even be faced with a reason for all that fighting... But not everything is bad about this game! The graphics are great, you will have lots of different maps in which to play and also quite nice weapons, which come from a simple machinegun up to the powerful bfg2k, which can kill a character with a single hit... From all these stuff we may conclude that this is a game mainly for playing with other people, but even that doesn't explain how on earth it doesn't have any story!!!

Story
No story at all... I guesse I can say that even Tetris had more story in it than this game! :P

Graphics/Sound
As I already said, the graphics in this game are great, they are even better than the perfect incredible graphics which were shown at us on quake 2... As for the sound, it is quite good, as you can clearly hear the sound of the steps of the other player and in the exact moment discover where he is!

Play Time/Replayability
If we are thinking in offline therms, this game only lasts the time that you take to finish the single player mode, as once you do it you won't have any other reason to keep on playing. As for the online modes, the game becomes somehow more enjoyable, however I don't think it is enough for granting it an higher replay value...

Final Recommendation
If you don't have a nice internet access or anyone to play this game with, I don't think you should get it, as there are plenty of other nice games in which you could spend your money.
