Planescape: Torment

Review by JimmyGoode

"Not Only The Best RPG, We're Talking The Best Game EVER!"

Though Baldur's Gate may be a more known game, Planescape: Torment will leave a much bigger impression on you. I beat this game about 2 years ago, and I still get goosebumps when i think about the story. This is THE greatest game I've ever played, and I've been around. I'll rate this game on the folowing points; Graphics, Sound, Freedom, Story, and Gameplay.

Graphics 9/10: This game has very well done graphics, though they may not be fully 3D, it's still great fun to see them. All The characters have diffrent animations for dieing, talking, walking, running, and more. Along with unique spell animations for every spell. One of my favorite things about this game is the creature guide, every time you meet a new character it'll be recorded in a log, you can then go back and look at that specific creature and you'll see a highly detailed picture of that creature, and some information about it. Along with a log of the cinimatic movies, where you can see all the movies you earned along the way. The only thing is that alot of the towns people look the same (only different colors) but thats to be expected in every game. Overall I'de have to say that these are some of the best 2D graphics I've ever seen, if not the best.

Sound 9/10: Great Sound, the music fits with the enviroment, alot of the dialogue has voices acting it, the characters have many random "talks", the actions have sounds (walking, fighting, spell casting, opening doors, ect...), and I never once got annoyed with the sound or music. Its always a great joy to hear important story plots in sound. Though this may contain nothing "special" it is still great.

Freedom 10/10: I would give it a 11/10 if posible. Basicly you can do whatever you want, from killing your teamates to killing important people. But unlike most game where you can do this, those who see your actions will turn hostile towards you, it will also efect your your personality (like if you kill alot of people you will be "Evil" which brings up diferent dialogue options.) You can also pass up characters and try to go solo, or choose what class you want your main character. But as a downfall to all this freedom you can also loose key items getting you stuck in a point of the game. Overall this is the most freedom filled game I've ever played.

Story 10/10: Like a said with freedom, this would get a 11/10 of possible, hell, 15/10! Not only is this the best story I've seen on a rpg, not only the best story on any game, to this day this games story remains my favorite story ever. About a man trying to figure out where he is, even who he is. He wakes up surounded by the dead in a stange world, with no memory of what happened, but by piecing together the clues, with help from a floating skull and other friends, he begins to relize the horific truth to his past. Though i can't tell you any more about this story without spoiling it, i can tell you that you'll be sucked into this story and it won't let go!

Gameplay 10/10: Like i said its not 3D, but I like the more simple 2D gameplay for these types of games. This Features Real time battle system right in your suroundings (no battle screens =D), you can have your entire team atack one enemy or let the AI take care of it (which is decent too.) The spell system is new, you can use each spell once a day (game day=about 1 hour) buy you can put more the one of the same spell in your spell book alowing multiple uses, you can also rest making the day go by quicker, the fighting system is nothing specail but still good, and theres a great sellection of items.
It features point and click moving and atacking. Its pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

OVERALL 10/10=the best game ever
If this story in a book, it would be the best book ever. even if the graphics and everything sucked that story would still pull this game to a 10/10. But when you add in the Great Graphics, Unlimited Freedom, and Awsome Gameplay, this game stands taller than the rest, I LOVE IT!

CONCLUSION: If you are at all remotely interested in RPG's, BUY THIS GAME! look for it on ebay or something, but don't think you know RPG until you've played Planesacpe: Torment
