The Ultimate Doom Review

This is my review for a first person shooter that changed the genre forever, The Ultimate Doom. This fast paced shoot em' up is a pure adrenaline rush from start to finish, and nothing beats pumping a demon spawn from hell full of shells. The basic story behind this great game is you are a space marine on a facility located on Mars. You work as security for the UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation), bored out of your skull you wait for action. Until one day a distress beacon is heard from Phobos, following with the strange vanishing of Deimos, Mars' other moon. You and a few others are immediately sent to Phobos to check it out. As you wait in the hangar you hear screams and gunfire, armed with only a pistol you wander into the hangar, which is where the game begins.

I will now split up my review into parts to make it easier for you the reader to find out the information you need for this game. The basic layout will be Graphics, Game play, Sound, and Plot.

Graphics: Today these graphics are totally outdated but back in the day they were top notch, some people patch this game with a program called JDoom to make the graphics more 3D. Myself i keep the old graphics, gives it a nostalgic feel. And so I give the Graphics a 10.

Game play: The game play will keep you on edge wondering what beasts lie around the corner. The controls are very easy to get used to and by the 4th or 5th level you should be blasting zombies with the best of em. Also you have a wide variety of ways to dispose of the demons on the red planet. From pistols and shotguns up to the BFG (Big Fraggin' Gun), you won't run out of ways to kill your opponents. And for all the ways you can turn the baddies into goo, I give game play a perfect 10.

Sound: The music in this game is great, from eerie tunes to some music you can really frag to, you won't hear me complaining about this games soundtrack. The SFX (sound effects for those whom don't know) in this game are good, shotgun blasts to the sound of a zombie being blown into chunks, its all good. For the sound quality i give it a 10.

Plot: The plot behind the story as seen in the first paragraph of this review, is basic: Run through dozens of well detailed levels blasting through tons of tough enemies. Your only objective is to react the end and destroy the demon's mastermind, in the process saving earth from inevitable doom. The plot, while dull, is definitely original, so I give it a 10.
