Star Wars: Battlefront
Review by Shiro Kosima
"Star Wars: Battlefront, be ready for a war!"
Star Wars: Battlefront is a truely amazing game that will be sure to get you in the feel of a real war. Droid or Stormtrooper, Rebel or Rebublic, 4 sides that will take you through the epic history of a story that we all know and love.
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics are beautiful, simply beautiful. Everything is rendered in its truest SW form. Every single class looks exactly how it did in the movies, with a full color pallet of display. All the weapons are also authentic, down to the colors that all the jedi are wearing. Even the vehicals have dirt and battleware on them to reflect the differant levels. Starfighters fly around with all their glory, and gradualy smoke the more they are hit by lazers. All explosins are there, from the emp pulse for the droids, to the frag grenades for the Stormtroopers. Everything is polised as it can be with one exception. This game uses a sort of burr feature. Instead of just having a grey smoke in the areas you are to far away to see, their is a sort of blurr from the things like snow, gun blast, and lazers. Gives a little bit of a more epic sense, but its still kinda annoying.
Story: 8/10
The story is obvioulsy nothing we havent seen before. It is a direct port from the movies to the game world. Every battle is there in its compleatness, from naboo plains, to the final Endor showdown in the forest. Nothing special in the least, but it is portrayed well.
Gameplay: 8/10
The gamplay in this game works very well. First off we have a 1st person veiw and a 3rd person veiw. That is something we dont see all to often in shooters, unless they have vehicals. The infultry moves with fluidly, you can croutch, roll, and jump your way to victory, or you can get shot and watch your opponets do all the fancy stuff. The only real downside to this is the vehicals. While most tanks and bikes are fine for the most part, the starfighters and flying transports really take some getting used to. Its a real pain when your just starting out, but i guess in a few days the effects will be nulifyed if you practice in single player.
Difficulty: N/A
This is a kinda grey area if you know what i mean. In singleplayer mode the difficulty ranges from easy to hard. Its not hard to kill bots on any of the levels of difficulty, but if they see you, they will shoot, and shoot till one of you is dead. The AI also has a great sense of manuvering. They preform all the moves that you yourself can preform, and do it welly timed. In the single player mode the difficulty would be rated, 7/10, and in multiplayer since its always changing it would rate 9/10 because not many of the hardcore FPS fans are into this game, so it lacks a real hardcore competative edge.
Replayability: 8/10
This is a mutliplayer game. Of course it has alot of replayability. You can always go online to grab a match, or go play one of your favriot battles in the single player mode. The downside to this would be that with all the other existing FPS's and the upcomming one, alot of players will flock to those and we might be a little lacking on the compatition department.
Overall Score: 8/10
Over all this is a truely good FPS in all the sense of the word. You finnaly get to play all of your favriot SW battles in a way only you thought possible. From running into a hord of stormtroopers, or stomping rebels with the AT-AT, this game truely revolitionizes the Star Wars universe and imenses you in the gameplay. It might be lacking for those who are more seasoned FPS fans, but new or old Star Wars: Battlefront is truely worth the $50.
