RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies Expansion
Review by sonic479
"Expanding theme parks to another level"
The first RollerCoaster Tycoon was a fun game. With the big hit of that game, the company of RollerCoaster Tycoon has decided to release an expansion pack to it entitled RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies. This is an add-on, meaning that you need the original to play this game. For more info on the first one, check my other review. For this review, I'm discussing the features of the expansion.
Story - 0/10
Like the original first one, there is no story involved.
Gameplay - 9/10
Since it is an expansion pack, there are more features added on from the original to help make it more fun.
One feature is more scenarios to play. Now there is a whole new set of scenarios, with harder objectives to complete. All the scenarios are quite interesting to play, as there are more different kind of prerequisites for each scenario and you need to change your idea of playing to fit the situation. For example, in one of the scenarios, the guests will only prefer high intensity rides. and any low intensity rides will bore them. Factors such as these were never present in the first one so it is quite a nice addition.
Another feature would be more of a lot of things. There are more footpaths to choose from, more shops and stalls, more rides, more scenery themes, more music options, and such. This is a huge jump from the original, as sometimes they were limited to the same ones. This time, there is a lot more variety and a lot of things that will help improve your park and make it better.
Last feature would be that the elements they kept from the first RollerCoaster Tycoon that made it all fun. There will be the same functions you had in the first one and are still the same in this game. Thus you can still have fun with this game with none major changes.
The downside, once more, is the camera angle. The camera angle still hasn't been fixed yet and so like I said in my review for the first one, you will still be able to click on the wrong thing at times when you meant to click on a certain thing. While the invisible function works well in this case, it still isn't fully refined and so it sometimes would get annoying if you accidentally did something to the landscape due to other surrounding objects.
Graphics - 9/10
It's basically the graphics on the original one, only with different kinds for the new rides, scenery, and shops and stalls. Guests are still all guys and tiny sized and are not variety. Again, this doesn't affect the graphics rating because it isn't necessary. The footpaths have more different designs and allow to choose even the supports for it. The new scenery are designed well to fit in that category. The new rides are nice for a change, as there is more variety to it.
Music/Sound - 10/10
Previously in the original one, the music options are limited to only two rides. Now this time, the music options can be played on any ride. Not only that, but there are more options to choose from such as gentle style, summer style, techno style, and such. There are a lot more to choose, and more variety so you won't have to listen to the same old, same old. Quite a nice addition. Sounds are just as repetitive as the last one, only with some additions for the newer rides. As always, despite repetition, it sounds fairly well.
Replay Value - 10/10
Extended replay value with all the extra scenarios. Not only that, but a lot more harder objectives make for a better challenge. This doesn't make the game just so you can complete it in just 10 hours. It is much longer than that.
Overall - 9/10
RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies is worth getting for an expansion regardless if you enjoyed the first RollerCoaster Tycoon or not. There are a lot more additional features and extended replay value to add more fun to the game. Overall, worth getting.
