Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer
Review by TheUndertaker1
"3DO changed the bad things, left in the good, and got some new ideas."
Meh, when I first got this game, it got it from a bargain rack for 5$. I immediately thought a game as good as this shouldn't be there. This is a solid RPG for experts, although new players to the genre may have a harder time with it, due to the fact that the second you start the game, you are thrust knee deep into the action. <_<
Graphics:8 3DO just used the same graphics engine recycled from MM6 and MM7. The graphics aren't very good, although this game's graphics DOES have a few minor improvements over the last two, including the menu interface. I also like the cut-scenes. They get people sucked in and make those people want to play more. The one thing I just love to stare is the weapon's graphics. *Drools* <_<
Sound:8 Not much to note here. The menu music is ok, if not repetitive. ALso, the combat music is, again good, but it repeats itself too much. I like the sound effects and voices alot, which raises this section up a tick or 2.
Controls:9 Pretty simple and straight forward. The quick spell button is definitely useful, although the Fly buttons and Look up/down buttons are a bit confusing. I am thankful for the run button and jump button. I have found those 2 buttons helpful.
Gameplay:9 I just love the ore thing. Getting free weapons is a good idea. The multitude of weapons, skills, and spells is damn 1337. Also, the way that you can destroy whole towns is a spirit lifter.(Must stab self for using that pun) The multitude of quests and gold raises this section up a tick. I do have one disappointment though: Arcomage. It seems that they just put it in there at the last minute. They should have made it seem like that they had some space left on the disk and just put it in there. What they should have done is give the player the ability to build their own Arcomage deck. However, I like the way the AI plays Arcomage. In addition, the enemys you face are varied. Ogres in Ravage Roaming, Tritons in Balthazar Lair= Varied.
Replay Value:9 As with all RPG's, you might want to play through with another character, affecting the course of the story.
Well, that be it. I definitely hope you find this interesting or helpful. If you don't, then I'll have to kill you. <_<
