"A Fun, Simple MMORPG for All Ages"

Disney sure has surprised me here. Toontown Online proves to be a very addicting and amazingly fun game. Everyone that plays the game is so nice and it's easy to make friends.

GAMEPLAY: 9/10

When you first join Toontown, you create a toon duck, horse, dog, cat, bunny, or monkey. The object of the game is to defeat the cogs, who have invaded Toontown, with "gags" or in more mature terms, "weapons." You receive ToonTasks and try to complete them. Your toon starts out with 2 simple gags and 15 "laff points" which are basically hit points or HP. After using many gags you can level up and receive more powerful gags and by completing some Toontasks you can receive more laff points. This simple gameplay proves to be very addicting and entertaining. You also have your very own estate and house where you can buy furniture, pets called "Doodles", and emotions for your toon. You can also fish and try to collect all of the fish species to boost your laff points or play mini-games to gain more jellybeans to buy gags or furniture. You can use the "Speedchat" phrases to chat with your fellow toons, but you cannot actually type with them unless you trade "secret codes" with them. Secret codes are randomly generated letters and numbers. When traded with friends they let you chat with them freely with your keyboard. There are plenty of fansites out there with secret code trading posts. Overall gameplay is great and is very entertaining.

STORYLINE: 7/10

Well as this is an MMORPG, there is not a very impressive storyline. Supposedly Scrooge McDuck accidentally freed all of the cogs and let them run havoc all over Toontown. You and your fellow toons are supposed to take action and try to defeat all of the cogs.

GRAPHICS: 8/10

The graphics in Toontown are nothing spectacular, and occasionally you'll see a slight glitch in the system. But overall the graphics are nothing unbearable and are mediocre.

SOUND: 7/10

Okay here's a slight problem in Toontown Online...The sounds are rather annoying. The background music is looped so you get tired of the same song very quickly. Most who have played Toontown for a while turn the background music off. The sound effects are okay, but it's the music that brings this score down.

REPLAYABILITY: 8/10

Once you max your toon's laff points (HP) you basically have nothing left to do in Toontown other than chat with your secret friends. But buying furniture for your estate and helping fellow toons still can be entertaining and overall replayability is good. Disney also constantly adds new features to Toontown to give players more to do.

OVERALL:

Overall Toontown is very entertaining and is a great MMORPG for all ages. Even a 7 year old could play this game and almost definitely become addicted. But even a 15 year old could become addicted as well! So I definitely recommend you download the free 3-day trial and decide for yourself whether or not you want to subscribe considering it's rather pricey. But overall it's a great MMORPG and is a great accomplishment by Disney.

I give Toontown an 8/10.
