Star Wars Republic Commando
Review by GTA Assassin X
"Best Star Wars game ever!!"
This game is possibly one of the best games yet!
Being a hardcore fan of Star Wars when I first seen the info doe this it sounded cool then I seen the E3 footage and it looked horrible. Bad bulky, fake and cartoon looking characters. Then.... then I played the demo and I thought it was simply amazing until I played bought the full version and the game its self is a piece of... HEAVEN!!!
Story 10/10 :
While the story isn't really connected to any books or anything your a leader in part of a elite squad of clone troopers. You do really cool missions for the Republic. You really got to see the story for yourself!
On a side note there's no "Star Wars" intro like in every star wars movie/game!
Graphics 10/10 :
Well at first when I seen the demo (I have full version now) I was really unimpressed with the bulky and almost stupid looking cartoon looking characters. But once the game gets going you could really give a crap. The graphics are so amazing and you feel like your actually there that it doesn't matter what they look like! I'm actually glad for once they don't look "Realistic".
Your HUD isn't like any other game HUD you've seen before. You're actually INSIDE your helmet. So everything's kind of weird looking but in a way that isn't annoying. You can see everything plus you do other things like cycle views and give cool orders from in your helmets view. It's a really great concept.
Graphically the game shouldn't be all that bad on most pcs. Even though it is the Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 engine it seems to run fine on my mid/high end pc with everything turned up and I can't run UT2K4 very well on medium settings.
Game play 10/10 :
The game play goes along with the graphics really. This game is FUN!!! Since you have an "in" helmet view you can see lots of tactical stuff and control your squad. For instance you can tell them to hold a position then tell another man to set up a sniping spot and have another blow open a door.
Also in this game you can't die, neither can your teammates. You revive them and when you "die" you have can give orders where they revive you or they can finish their jobs then come back for you. Once again another great concept by Lucas Arts.
There are other things different then most games. Your secondary fire makes you throw nades and another button (you setup) lets you stab people, with your gun or your wrist blade and when you do this a cool wiper cleans your visor.
Team work is essential in this!
Controls 10/10 :
Controls are very easy and you can change them to whatever you want. The only things you might need to get used to is ordering the team around but other then that there isn't allot of buttons!
Music & Sound 10/10
The music of course is great! As with all Star Wars games I leave it on. It really gets you pumped up through out the game!
The sounds were good too. And allot of the lines were great from your squad! Definitely got to pay attention though to what's going on!
Learning Difficulty/Curve 5/10 :
This game can be challenge I imagine. There are allot of things you have to learn from managing your team to learning about your helmets HUD. The biggest thing will be in game battles because your HUD is somewhat cluttered and there's allot of info at first to get use too.
Multiplayer 10/10 :
I really like the multiplayer allot. You can choose from a Clone Trooper or Trandoshan. And you can customize them allot.
Online is fun and the maps are nice and big currently there isn't allot of players but the game is only been out two days! Probably one of the funnest star wars games I've played online. Servers are a little laggy but nothing big. Nothing much else to say because it's too early for MP comments!
Pros & Cons :
Pros :
-Control a Squad
-Helmet HUD
-Cool Weapons
-Great scripted Action
-Best Star Wars game yet!
-You did read the review right?
Cons :
-Umm.....there's no Star Wars intro.
Overall 10/10
Overall this is the funnest squad based game I've played even in the non-star wars universe. The Helmet HUD and the great scripted events make it so fun that you want to play it again! Id recommend this even if you don't like Star Wars. There are really no flaws at all making this perhaps the closet thing to a perfect game I can find!
