Still Life
Review by BannedAccount
"An eerie and disturbing point and click game"
Still Life takes place in modern day Chicago where you control Victoria McPherson and through a series of flashbacks you go to Prague in 1929 where you control her Grandfather, Gustav McPherson where you see that there's an unusual coincidence in the murders that have taken place from now and then.
Game Play:
This literally is a point and click game. You click on a location and Victoria (or Gustav, all depending on what level you're playing) will walk, run or jog to the location you specified and tell you their thoughts about it. You then will usually go through your menu and select the appropriate tool for the given situation. Example, there's a puddle of blood on the floor that needs to be collected for evidence.
But you always have to take a picture of everything first. The menu is a little vague in how you would use certain things (Like the camera) so I clicked around confused for a few minutes and finally Victoria said "I can't use the camera without film!" so I spent another 10 minutes clicking around the menu figuring out how you combine things. Finally I figured out you select the camera and hit one of the many buttons that has no description and then you select the camera and hit use. Silly me... so after taking a picture you would select the swab and your character would swab up the sample.
Sound:
Argh! My ears! The voice acting is so beyond terrible in this game. I think I could have done a better job, and that's pretty sad. The writing is pretty bad, too. Some of Victoria's comments are disturbingly cheery sounding as she's looking at a dead body in a bathtub filled with blood. The music however, is pretty good. It fits the mood of the game very nicely.
Graphics:
The backgrounds are very eerie and disturbing looking, which of course fits this game perfectly and they really draw you into the game. The character models look pretty good, too. But the backgrounds are the best.
Should you buy this game?
In my opinion, this game is just good enough to keep you playing. It's not great by any means. But, if this type of game sounds interesting to you, then I suggest you should check it out.
