Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing

Review by thelistman

"I can't believe this"

Introduction - Is this a game? Did I really just play this? Where do I begin? Big Rigs was released by a new company called Stellar Stone. I seriously think the developers had about the budget of ET for the Atari. It disgusts me to have to play this crap.

Gameplay - Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is a truck racing game. You can choose from four rigs, all of which are exactly the same except for looks. And there are five tracks to choose from. But you need to download the version 1.0 patch to get the fourth level to work. But the catch with the races is that you don't really race. Your AI opponent just sits there. He doesn't move. It should be called Absent Intelligence, because there is no AI to speak of. You win every race assuming you don't quit before the race is over. You cannot lose. After you win, you are shown a screen with a picture of a trophy and the words, “You're Winner!” Plus you can climb mountains as if there were no gravitational pull on your truck. You seriously move up mountains faster than driving on straight land. Even greater is when you enter the “World of Grey.” You can actually drive off the edge of levels. When you do, everything is grey as you continue to drive. But one of the worst parts of Big Rigs is the backwards acceleration. If you hold down the back arrow key, you will continue to accelerate and not stop, literally. I put a weight down on the back arrow key and thirteen minutes later, my truck was moving at over one trillion miles per hour. That's about 1,500 times the speed of light. Wow. The only redeeming factor about this game is the massive levels. They are big and can be explored for hours on end. But there is no excuse for the horrible gameplay.

Graphics/sound - The problems don't end there. There are three sound effects and no music. The graphics are the worst graphics I have seen in about five years. The trucks are blocky, and the environments are all crappy and lack detail. The tail lights are not even connected to the truck. And there is no collision. None. You can go through houses, trees, walls, and even your non-moving opponents. Not only that, there is no resemblance of gravity. Your truck sticks to the ground and never leaves.

Longevity - Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing can be played for a while if you like to explore big levels for no reason. But the racing, as mentioned before, is way behind the times. There really is no reason to play the levels more than once. Or even play them at all for that matter.

I cannot believe that a company would release anything in the state that it was in. This game is a complete disgrace. Enough said.
