"Decide your Fate hero..."
Fate is a RPG made by WildTangent, it's a very fun game and you will be hooked forever (well maybe not forever but a pretty long time), the game costs $20 dollars and must be bought online.
The review is split in 4 categories:
Gameplay
Graphics
Sound
Replay value
Gameplay-10
This is where Fate shines, the gameplay is almost the same as diablo, you first start a new game and choose a difficulty setting (4 in total), after that you create your character and your pet (more on the pet later), when you're done you step into the world of fate.
When you first begin the game you're in a little town with only a little gold to spend, you can buy weapons, armor, potions, spells, enchant weapons and armor and get quests from the people in town, you can also fish and sell the items or fish you catch for money.
After you're done you can enter the dungeon, the dungeon is the main area of the game and it provides you with an unlimited amount of floors to explore and loot, of course the lower you get the harder the monsters become forcing you to level up and be fully equipped with the best armor and weapons you can get your hands on, but I can hear you say: "doesn't the game become dull exploring the same dungeon floors over and over?" well the answer is NO, the dungeon is completely random, the items are completely random and the quests too, so you will never find the same weapon or do the same quest twice (unless it's the basic weapon), and of course as in every RPG there is leveling up, everytime you gain a level you get 5 attribute points and 2 skill points which you can spend on anything you like.
Another feature of the game is Fame, Fame is basically how fameous you are, you can get Fame in 3 different ways:
1. Defeating mini-bosses.
2. Completing quests.
3. Use gold to buy yourself some fame.
Fame is pretty important, when your fame lvl increases you get 4 skill points and later on you need a certain amount of fame to equip powerful items.
Last but not least is the pet, at the beginning of the game you choose a cat or a dog and give it a name, but of course you don't want a dog OR a cat, that's where the fishing part is important, the fish you catch can be fed to your pet which in turn transforms the pet into a new pet for a certain amount of time (or permanently if you give him the best fish). And just like you the pet levels up and becomes stronger (you don't get points to spend for your pet though)
Graphics-9
The graphics in this game are pretty good, it's very cartoony and everything is very colorful from the houses to yourself, only the dungeon is dark but that's how it's supposed to be, the monsters have some decent graphics too, the gel monsters give a shine glow and ghost monsters are transparent. The magic effects in this game can have some work though, some of them are very nice but some other are a little weak in the graphics departement, the meteor storm looks very dull and it doesn't look very strong (even though it can deal some nice damage, but I have all graphics down and I don't have the hi-res version of the game so it could just be my version of the game).
Sound- 7
I can only give the game an average score here, there are the basic sounds like sword slashes, fireballs shooting from your hands opening chests etc. but there isn't enough music in this game, there are only 3 music tracks in the game: 1 for the title screen, 1 for the town and 1 for the whole dungeon.
But this game is highly modable so you can put your own music in the game if you want and create different music for the different floors of the dungeon.
Replay value-10
This game has a very high replay value, the game can be modded very easily, you can create new items, monsters, spells, quests and more in only a few hours and ofcourse if you don't like modding stuff the game itself without mods has a high replay value too mainly because of the random dungeons and quests, but also because of the end-game reward, after you complete the game you can continue leveling up your character, or you can make him resign and give a item to his heir (your new character later), when you give an item to your heir it gets a very nice status boost to it's existing attributes and effects making your heir more powerful then his father (or mother), you can keep completing the game and giving the same item to each heir making it a VERY powerful item.
all in all this is a great game and you should download the demo to see if you like it, if you like it I suggest buying the game and play play play.....
