Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

Review by Kraidfan101

"Even games like Battlefield and Counterstrike can learn a thing or two from Enemy Territory"

ID software has made some of the most influential games of our time. Doom, Quake, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Now the RTCW series has ET.... one of, if not the best team games ever.

Graphics: 8/10.
Now, These graphics are running on the old Quake 3 engine... but I must say... for an outdated engine, these graphics are FANTASTIC! There is precipitation in the game such as snow and rain, and the explosions just look fabulous. But don't get me wrong, there are some problems with it.

1: The game maps are LARGE! This sometimes causes some weird flickering in the background and causes a certain texture that is blue, to flicker to black and such, but this is only on some maps...

2: Even if I turn everything to lowest, that flickering is still there.

But it's just plain beautiful, and I don't mind the flickering. 8/10.

Controls: 10/10
Basic WSAD controls... nothing special here. At least they work, very well.

B for binoculars, X to go prone, C to crouch, G to see your Command Map, F for an action when availible, and L to go to the limbo menu.

Gameplay: 10/10
I would give this a 11/10 if I could. This is just simply amazing. This game is 100% Teamwork all the way, so if you think you are going to just breeze through every map, by using just one powerful weapon, please go play CS.

Every map is special and requires alot of teamwork, because they are LARGE!!! no one can cover 5 places at once, and that is a blessing in disguise.

Weapons act like their real life counterparts, Thompson and MP40 act like older submachine guns, Pistols have some recoil when firing... and Snipers also act like their old counter parts, even the MORTAR acts realistic...

Every map has objectives you must take, or defend, Depending on what map you are playing, Or what side.... there are only 2 in this Game. Allies, which consist of only Americans, and Axis... which are mostly German. This is kinda dissipointing, for the allies at least, but you'll ignore it.

There are Classes in the game. You have a Soldier, the main dish that can use heavy weapons like the Almighty Panzershrek and Mobile MG42 Machinegun, as well as the mortar.

Then there's the Engineer that can build and repair thing, as well as plant dynamite to blow objectives to peices, and they can even plant mines. They also can use the M1 Garand and K43, and load grenades in them.

Then you have the Field Op, which carries weapon ammo packs, so you can fill up your gun with more ammunition. They can also call Artillery strikes which fire in a direct line, can scout out mines and place them on your map. They also can call Air strikes, which are like Artillery Strikes, but bomb the same place 4 times over.

Then you have the Medic, which... heals people, Can revive people, and yes, they can inject themselves with a syringe to make them like Rambo.

Last, but not least, you have the Covert Op. He can plant Satchel charges, a more powerful, and faster version of the dynamite. They also can use the silenced M1 Garand or K43 compared to what side you are on.. The Sten, which is a more accurate machine gun, and the FG42, which is a scoped Rifle, but lacks some power compared to the Sniper and the Sten. They have an entirely deadly skill, they can swap their uniform, for an enemy's. You can now spy and if used right, destroy the enemy before they even knew what hit them.

Then there's the Limbo menu, which allows you to change your weapon or class, view the entire game map and look at where your objectives are, as well as seeing where all of your teammates are.

Now, this provides for some great game, and teamplay. But you must know what you are doing... this is a team effort, so if you don't know any objectives, you are just gonna punish not only yourself, but your teammates. Also, if you have idiots playing, and Friendly Fire on, you are gonna have a rough time, as that is what will happen most... So you must watch your aim, and you must look out for other troops on your side.

Also, if you TK a troop on your side, make sure to just ignore it and concentrate on the game, as long as you don't kill like 5 troops in a row, you won't be kicked.

There is no Singleplayer for the game, as ID software's development of it was poor, and thus they scrapped it, but luckily they gave us the Multiplayer version of the game.

Sound: 10/10
Where do I begin? Every weapon sounds great! Everyone of them sounds just like their actual counterparts, or closely resembles the sound. and the voices of the game sound great as well when using Quick Chat, the Axis voices sound like actual Germans, and they put in some actual German words to, Danke ID software!

Replayability: 9/10
It's just so good, and with new maps being released so much, you'll be playing this for a long... long time.

Final score: 9/10

ID software once again has made another fantastic game in their library of games, and with the new Enemy Territory: Quake Wars coming out soon, this will hold off the need for it until then.
