Axis & Allies

"I would give the game a shot if you are looking for a new RTS, possibly to play with some friends."

World War II games have been rolling out for a long time now, but recently I had time to sit down and play Axis and Allies, among all others in the genera. While not the best World War 2 game, nor the best RTS, it can hold its own.

In the single player campaign you can play as Germans, Britain or Russia. The campaign has a story, it can be tricky to fallow at times however, I had audio trouble where when so much action would be taking place the voices went out. The campaigns for all nationalities are decent in length. However the game play does tend to get fairy flat after an hour or so. During many of the stages you don't get a chance to get more vehicles or solders then you started, thus leaving you to hunt down your enemies with the army you have, not the army you want.

I had frequent crashes in this game, both in single player and when I tried to connect to the Internet. The best the game ran was on LAN with two other of my friends. Actually the LAN Games were the most fun I had during my entire time playing the game.

The graphics in the game are actually very good for an RTS, with full camera control and fairly detailed models all around. The graphics are probably one of its strongest points. The Audio in the game is sharp and clear, that is if there isn't too much going on. I said before that I did have continued trouble in the single player mode with the Voice acting being cut out, due to too much going on.

The game can hold its own, it is reminiscent of such masterpieces as Red Alert 2 and other command and conquer games. The World War 2 theme has gotten stale though. The most fun I had the entire time was in multiplayer, though frequent bugs hindered me from continued play. I would give the game a shot if you are looking for a new RTS, possibly to play with some friends. But there are most certainly better games out there to buy.
