"This game is great fun!"

I first played Future Cop LAPD in 2000, when I downloaded the demo for my old Mac. I didn't know what to expect, but when I started playing, I discovered a very addictive, fun, simple game which featured excellent graphics.

This game is quite hard to find nowadays, and when I finally managed to track the full version for the PC down, it didn't work. The game didn't recognise the disk which is required to start. I bought another copy which also refused to work. In the end a friend of mine gave me the crack so I could finally enjoy the full version after 2 years of trying to get it to work!

What the game is about:
Future Cop LAPD puts you in control of a futuristic crime fighting transformer. It can transform from a high speed hovercraft, to a powerful walker. At your disposal is a host of powerful futuristic weapons. Future Cop LAPD has two gaming modes. Crime War is the story mode, where you have to eliminate enemy targets, operating switches along the way to activate and deactivate stuff until you reach your target, which is usually a huge battle. Along the way you can pick up more health, and weapon upgrades. You can also do the missions in a co-operative mode with another player, but you share one health shield.

The other mode is "Precinct Assault" where you either play against computer controlled "Sky Captain" or against another human player. You start off with a basic map, with turrets you can claim and destroy. You can also buy more bases, air defence, tanks but these cost points. The objective is to send a tank or dreadnought to your opponent's base. Once the tank crosses the line, you win, or if your opponent sends the tank to your base, you lose! There are several maps, and each time you beat Sky Captain, he gets harder.

Gameplay:
Simple to pick up, very fun and quite challenging. You can play on Easy, Normal, or Hard mode, but I find that all it does is reduce how much ammo you can hold. The game clearly states your objective when you start a mission.
10/10

Graphics:
This game was released in 1998, and the graphics are still quite good by today's standards. The special explosion effects are amazing.
8/10

Sound:
Again, is excellent, although a bit repetitive.
7/10

Overall, a very good game indeed, although can be a bit frustrating, especially as you can't save during a mission. If you fail you have to start from the beginning of the mission, which can take a lot of time. You can get this game quite cheap these days, don't let the fact that its an old game put you off!
