Fable: The Lost Chapters
Review by Blue_Jae
"Good or Evil? It's up to you..."
It's finally here! The game that lets you be Good or Evil. So, is it better than the Xbox version?
Graphics: 8/10
Honestly, the graphics aren't that amazing. The characters look weird. They are a hybrid of characters from Japanese RPG games and other normal games. The scenery is beautiful and well-done. The spell effects are sights to behold. They are quite amazing for a while. The story for this game is gory and serious, yet the graphics look like a children's book.
Sound: 9/10
The music can get quite annoying if you stay in the same area for long, but they are appropriate nonetheless. Voice acting can get funny from time to time. The main flaw for audio this game is your character don't talk at all except some short phrases.
Game-play: 9/10
You can do virtually anything in this game according to the box of this game. This is somehow misleading. You can do a lot more things than your standard Japanese RPG, but it's not The Sims. You can get married, you can be Good or Evil, you can get drunk, and a lot more. You can choose to be a Warrior, Archer, or Mage. One major flaw is that you always end up in some kind of hybrid after finishing the game. I started out as a Mage, but ended up with a bow-using spell-caster that's also adept at close-combat. The experience system is complicated also. Finally, being good or evil is fun. If you're good, people will cheer you whenever you walk by. If you are evil, they will run away from you screaming. One major flaw is that the world doesn't evolve. It's just you that's getting old and the towns never change.
The story starts out simple and predictable. And well, you can probably predict the ending too. However, the narrations during key points of the game are well-done. It makes you feel like you're reading a storybook or some kind.
Controls: 10/10
It's almost same as standard FPS games. Simple WASD movements and mouse to look around. The controls are very easy to get used to. You can assign a number of different things to number 1-9 on the keyboard which is pretty useful compared to Xbox controller.
Pros:
+Cute, storybook-like graphics
+The ability to be good or evil
+Addictive Xbox Live matches
+Realistic
Cons:
-Very short for an RPG
-Not worth buying again if you own the original
Final Verdict: 9.1/10
If you played original Fable to death, there is no reason to buy this. If you didn't play original Fable at all, buy it!
