RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack
Review by RjWise
"Three smash hit games, thrown into one!"
I could never forget the day Rollercoaster Tycoon II hit the shelves. I did backflips. I was so warped into this game, I nearly died when I heard an expansion pack was coming.
But as time went on, I broke off from the smash hit game by Chris Sawyer, only to find <Triple Thrill Pack sitting in the $30 bin and buying it immediately! The dreams came back, the black hole of boredom was filled, and my grades in French dropped dramatically, all thanks to this highly addictive game, one which completely dominates the original and raised the bar permanently for every game of the "tycoon" series to come!
Gameplay
9/10
All I can say is this: Wow. You've got the power to build the ultimate park in history, are you up to it? There's a full set of missions, all varying in difficulty. Adding to this, you now have the abilityto create your own WORLD, something the original rollercoaster tycoon always lacked!
But I must explain to you the raw gameplay of this game. It's an easy interface, with a learning curve of probably no more than an hour. Thankfully, it's all clicking, not unlike most of the other tycoon games.
To add to the freedom of this game, you have the ability to create custom ride paths, and save them! Created a huge roller coaster? You can save it now! There's essentially nothing you CANNOT do when creating a park.
Graphics
6/10
Sadly, there's no improvement to those of the original. I was a bit disappointed, as the blurry people walking around your park had no form of graphical upgrades. By no improvement, I mean it. There has been no graphical upgrades, which is a tad disappointing.
Sounds
7/10
The music you can tune into for each ride was obviously given a bit of thought to it, the loop music sounds great, as does all form of musical score in this game. The ride noises are still the same. Clunky roars as rollercoasters zip by, the putting of a two-stroke go-kart as it goes by, and the looping (and VERY annoying) sounds of massive crowds will ring in your ears.
Expansions
7/10
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2: Triple thrill pack is that. The original, and the two expansions "Time Twisters" and "Wacky Worlds".
Both expansions add a lot of rides, theme options, and a lot of new missions to complete. Sadly, however, most of the rides are rather stupid, and you won't see yourself using them over time.
FINAL
RCT2: Triple Thrill pack isseverely under-rated, it's as simple as that. I can nitpick at the lack of graphical improvements, the annoying sounds of the crowd loop, and that's about all. This game rose the bar for the tycoon series and still to this day, RollerCoaster Tycoon II is still a much loved game.
Rent it, or buy it?
Buy it. I can guarantee to you that you will never regret it
