* This society does not care if you're the dumbest vegetable on earth,
if you do something wrong, someone will make you pay the price! ;)
* Finally, the much-awaited sequel has come out and I've finally got the
cash to buy one myself. Diablo2 is a great game that, although involves
a lot of fighting, requires less fighting skill compared to the conventional
arcade fighting games. Rather, it is more of knowing your own abilities,
comparing them with the opponents', and deciding whether to back out
or not from a fight or to ask for help. It's quite complicated, but
once you learn to like the basics the rest will simply follow.
* note: There still is pretty much unfinished work in this FAQ, but I
don't plan to get active in FAQ writing anytime soon so might
as well submit this. I also have to finish my SC and BW FAQs
and since I'm going through a lotta sched changes right now,
maybe next time =p

Simply put, Diablo2 is a point-and-click game. Click on items and
you'll pick them up; click on friends and you'll talk to them; click on
enemies and you'll kill them. Right clicking causes you to cast your spell
and nothing else. You can, however, make use of the keyboard since the
game utilizes hot keys as well. One thing new about Diablo2, however, is
the fact that you no longer have to click like hell when attacking a very
strong monster; just hold the left mouse button on him and he's done for.
One exception would be the shift key. Holding this while attacking
will cause your player to refrain from walking while you attack. Normally,
your player will move toward the enemy and strike---not so when you hold
the shift key. It's very useful if you're using arrows so you won't have
to get close before you fire.
And new to us Diablo fans is the use of the two auxillary keys:
Ctrl and Alt. Holding them yields two results: run and view all onscreen
items respectively. The RUN (ctrl) button does have it's limits though:
it can be depleted. You'll have to keep an eye on the yellow bar below,
since it tells you how much stamina you have left for running. The SHOW
ITEMS (alt) button on the other hand works like Hellfire's search spell,
and like before, does not include doors, portals, and shrines and the
"search", but unlike before, now features a boxed name of the item above
that item. You may click the name box instead and pick the item up just
the same---cool!

1. Character Classes:
a. Paladin - your typical knight in shining armor---only he doesn't
have a shining armor yet. You'll have to either fight
for it or raise the money to buy it. Good at swords,
maces, scepters (yeah, scepters), and other melee
as well as semi-magical weapons.
b. Barbarian - no, not your typical Conan. This barbarian is a shaman
at heart, and unlike the "barbarian" featured in an
altered Hellfire, this one gives much room for spellcasting
though these spells mostly only increase his barbaric
capabilities in combat. Also good at melee weapons,
but is more approriate for the heavier ones like the
axe or the two-handed swords.
c. Amazon - every game that allows you to select from different
players must include a female, otherwise its creators
will be called sexists. Should have been the exact
translation of Diablo1's Rogue, but was given as her
specialty a new item, the Javelin. Of course, she
is also respectable when it comes to bows and arrows.
d. Necromancer - yeah, mah current fav, this type introduces an ability
so new it actually alters the gameplay alot: raising
the dead. Yeah! That dead will now follow you wherever
you go, much like Diablo1's Golem spell. But wait,
Necromancers also have Golem spells of their own!
Very cool!. On the down side, I can think of only
one weapon that suits a Necromancer fine, namely,
the (Fairy Godmother's) wand.
e. Sorceress - you're dealing with the supernatural, so what else
do you expect? A magician, of course! Now there are
two females to choose from, and both aren't to be under-
estimated since they can do things the other characters
can't. She is, of course, best at staves, and as good
at that as an Amazon is with her javelins and bows.
2. The "Dashboard": (from left to right)
a. Life - the red orb being held by some sort of angelic figure.
Placing your mouse pointer above it lets it display
in numbers what the red liquid expresses in proportion:
the amount of life you have left.
b. Attack - tells you what type of attack you are currently prepared
to do (eg. melee or throwing). Clicking on it will allow
you to change that attack type.
c. Experience - the thin white bar; gives you an idea of how far you've
go and how far you still are from the next level. Placing
the mouse pointer above it will give you a more exact
idea.
d. Auto-Run - is almost self-explanatory; clicking it will enable
you character to skip walking and start running whenever
he/she moves.
e. Stamina - the thick yellow bar; keeps you informed on how tired
your legs are of running, if you deplete it, you can
no longer run unless you stop to rest. Then the bar
will refill itself.
f. Mini-panel - displays what else but a mini-panel that in turn would
have the following options: (from left to right)
- Character : displays your name, class, level, experience,
and other things about your player
- Inventory : displays the items you have and where
you have put them
- Skill Tree : displays the skills that you can do
as well as those you can't along with
their prerequisites
- Auto-map : displays what part of the current level
you are in have you already passed
through and where you are in the map
right now. Allies are also displayed.
- Message Log : what else but a log of messages...
- Quest Log : displays the quests you have already
done, those you need to do, and a faint
representation of those you havent
encountered yet.
- Game Menu : click this if you want to save, quit,
configure, and stuff like that
3. Character Stats:
The box on the upper-left most contains your name, and your class
is next to it. Your level determines how well you will fare against
different monsters. Experience is basically the number of points you
have gathered via slaughtering numerous demons. A certain number of
experience points, stated in the Next Level box, is your goal to raise
your level by one. Here's a complete table:

Everytime your level is raised by one, you gain five stat points
which you should distribute wisely among your strength, dexterity,
vitality, and energy. Just click on the red button that appears to
distribute when possible.

* Min Stats: Paladin | 25 | 20 | 25 | 15
Barbarian | 30 | 20 | 25 | 10

Necromancer | 15 | 25 | 15 | 25
Sorceress | 10 | 25 | 10 | 35
Ok, on to the other parts. The life box explains in numbers
what the red liquid explains in amount---how much more damage can you'
take without dying. The same goes with mana, which is the amount of
"magic" you can use to pay for a spell's casting cost. Gold and Damage
are self-explanatory, while armor class is your chance of evading an
enemy's attack and Attack Rating is your chance of landing a hit everytime
you attack. The Resist to boxes tell you how much damage from a said
form of attack can you be invulnerable to.
4. Belt:
The small boxes just right of your "run meter" is your belt. They
pretty much work just like your inventory, but they cannot be hidden,
cannot hold gold coins, rings, amulets, and everything larger, and
can be accessed quickly by pressing the number corresponding to the
box whose item you'd like to use. Each box can hold more than just
one item depending on the kind of belt you are wearing.
5. Stash:
Since Diablo2 no longer saves the exact world (locations and
everything) as it is, you no longer have an infinite storage place
that goes by the name Tristram. If you drop something and save, that
something will be lost forever. But, to compensate (though I beg to
disagree), is the so-called Stash. In it you can store those oh-so-cool
weapons that your oh-so-weak self can't use yet ;) and those items
that serve as reserve for specific situations. It also has gold storage
in a separate "room", just like the one you have in your inventory.
Oops, forgot to tell ya the limits of them gold keepers, well actually
they come in two simple formulae,
Max Inventory Gold - Current Level x 10,000
Max Stash Gold - 50,000 (+50,000 every 10 levels)

This is where you're at whenever you start a new game. There are
four in total, and they all correspond to the four acts that comprise
the entire game. Each will of course have a unique cast, with Cain the
Elder (yeah, the "$100 Indentifier" in Diablo1) as the only constant,
and this time he identifies items without asking anything in return (yeah!)
There also will be a "traveler" in towns 1 and 2 and of course you'll
still see them in towns 2 and 3 respectively since it's them who brought
you those towns in the first place. Well anyway, here's a list of the
townsfolk in each act:
ROGUE ENCAMPMENT (Act 1):
Akara: - The equivalent of Adria in Diablo1, this purple-hooded leader
of the rogue group called the Sisters of the Sightless Eye will
give you not only give you several quests and fully replenish
you health and mana whenever you talk to her, but will also
trade a number of spell-oriented things like scepters, staves,
wands, potions, scrolls, and tomes.
Charsi: - Armed with a blacksmith's strength yet surprisingly charming
and sweet, this blonde babe is the one to go to whenever your
items are not as strudy as they used to and need a little tweaking.
And as the blacksmith, she will also be trading your everyday
weapons along with bow/crossbow ammo (yes, these babies already
NEED ammo in Diablo2)
Gheed: - Sells/trades the same type of wares that Charsi does, and although
he cannot repair like a blacksmith does, he can do something
else, something new to Diablo fans everywhere, something called
GAMBLING. It's just like dealing with Wirt in Diablo1, but you
don't have to spend 50 bucks just to take a look. Instead you'll
be presented a list of unidentified items that are available
at very high costs. It's your risk, although sometimes uniques
may come out. (hooooweeeee!!!)
Kashya: - An arrogant rogue who despises you at first, but will change
her mind on you later on. Then she will allow you to get some
occasionally much needed help from the best of her bow-wielding
warriors. But of course, nothing is free nowadays ;)
Warriv - The caravan traveler who'll take you east to Lut Gholein of Act
2 once you've defeated Act 1's major boss, Andariel. Of course,
you may also go back to Act 1 through him cause he'll be just
there for you at Lut Gholein's starting point.
LUT GHOLEIN (Act 2):
Atma - Often seen crying to herself, this poor mother will give you Act 2's
first quest, and won't be of much help afterwards.
Drognan - This a male and orange version of Akara, but without the ability
to heal and replenish mana. He will also give you a quest, and
is the primary source of spell-oriented things like scepters,
staves, wands, potions, scrolls, and tomes.
Elzix - An older, wiser, and more serious version of Gheed, this retired
warrior will, as Gheed does, sell you blacksmith's items as well
as give you a chance to gamble on one of the best (or worst) items
in the game!
Fara - Probably the most useful of Act 2's townsfolk, this red-haired
woman Paladin can not only do everything that Charsi normally
does (eg. trades and repairs weapons and armor), but in addition
to that heal and replenish your mana everytime you try to talk
to her.
Geglash - And now I present the most useless being in all of Diablo2.
This low-life fat drunkard annoys you the first time you meet
him, and will continue to because of his uselessness. He's just
like Diablo1's Farnham, but at least the latter can make you
laugh somtimes (remember the quote: "YOU DRINK WATER!?" ^_^)
Griez: - Yep, the resident mercinary. No need to earn his trust as with
Kashya, since for him all that counts is yer cold cash. You can
hire from him several spear-wielding warriors.
Jerhyn - As Lord of Lut Gholein, it is he who must solve the mysteries
that lie within the palace walls, yet like everyone else, he can't
He will come to you for help after some time, when you've already
gained his trust.
Kaelan - A palace guard, so what else do you expect him to do? Of course,
keep you out when Jerhyn doesn't want you in, and let you in
when his Lord says so.
Lysander - His restriction to potions and keys whenever you trade with
him makes him inferior to Drognan, who will, as stated, also
trade spell-oriented weapons. His easy access location, however,
sometimes makes him even more frequently visited than the former.
Meshif - The ship captain who'll take you, yet again, east to Kurast of
Act 3 once you've defeated Act 2's major boss, Duriel. Of course,
you may also go back to Act 2 through him cause he'll be just
there for you at the Kurast dock.
KURAST DOCKS (Act 3) [my favorite town! got a buttload o' gothic chicks,
walking around, carrying buckets of, well,.....
whatever! ^_^]
Alkor - An old man with an accent that gets pretty funny when he's angry.
(I just love the way he says, "DAMMIT") He has Lysander's wares,
Gheed's gambling system, and most important of all no one else's
stat improving quests. Visit him a lot. It will do you more good
than harm.
Asheara - Yeah! Many claim that Kurast is no longer a sight to behold,
but this babe sure proves otherwise ;) She is the leader of
a mercenary band of mages known as the Iron Wolves, and gives
out the most useful of employees in all of Diablo2. I always
try to weed out those with a "Cold, Fast Cast" ability since
it's they who have the ability to totally FREEZE the opponent
and do it repeatedly until they ALL DIE!! Hooyaah!!
Hralti - Will start out very near your starting point, but will be very
far from that the next time you visit the town. He is somewhat
secluded as with Alkor, and is your everyday blacksmith who comes
with everything that Charsi (as a blacksmith) can offer.
Natalya - Seemed as useless as that drunkard Geglash, but upon surfing
the net I found out that she actually had the potential to
be a spoiler. Notice how she mysteriously disappears after
you beat the crap out of Mephisto? Well what she was supposed
to say is STILL hidden somewhere in the Diablo2 CD and here
it is (SPOILER ALERT!!)...
"Word is spreading fast that you killed Mephisto. I'd be honored
to fight beside you and help, but I've just received my mission
orders. I'll be traveling to the Barbarian lands of the north,
but I can't tell you why. With luck, our paths will cross again.
Farewell..."
Ormus - Another "weird" person in the glorious town of Kurast, this retired
"great mage" is now your source of philosophical (not to mention
third person) views as well as some scepters, some staves, and
some wands. He will also sell some potions, some scrolls, some
tomes, and a mask---if he feels like doing so.
PANDEMONIUM FORTRESS (Act 4)
Halbu - Not much I can say about this guy cause he doesn't have a "Talk"
option, nor does he give you any quest at all. He does, however,
open his weapons and armor for trade. And he can repair too.
Jamella - Compliments Halbu's wares with those that are spell-oriented
like scepters, staves, and wands. She also sells some potions,
scrolls, and tomes, and even restores 100% of your own health
and mana everytime she is clicked. And last but not least, she
can offer anyone the pleasure of gambling.
Tyrael - None knows what an Archangel is supposed to look like, but if
it did look like him, it'd look so very cool. Blizzard's notion
of an Archangel having "tentacles" shooting from behind him is
just sooo new I find it worthy of attention! He will also give
you yer first mission.
SPECIAL MENTIONS:
Deckard Cain - found in all the Acts (though not right away in Act1),
Cain must have something very helpful and applicable in
all Acts to convince you to always tag him along. And he
does: FREE IDENTIFICATION! In Diablo2 you can no longer
use items that are unidentified, and that's why this skill
of Cain's is considered...very...helpful.
Flavie - A member of the Sisters of the Sightless Eye, this rogue stands
in your way towards the Cold Plains (in Act 1) and warns you
to retreat until you have finished your first mission. She looks
as if she's just another rogue guard like those in town, but
really she can be of much help (if you lure your enemies to her)
when you're still very weak and can't take out the next batch
of monsters on your own.
Hadriel - As Flavie is to Act 1, so is Hadriel to Act 4. He is an Archangel
who will prevent you from taking up the last mission (Diablo,
of course) until you complete the previous mission regarding
Mephisto's soulstone. And when you are finally allowed to proceed,
he will give you some tips on dealing with the Lord of Terror
himself.

Nothing much can be said about the "out of towns" as it is randomly
generated by software. The only pattern I can think of is that each area
"out of town" is either link to the town itself, another out of town,
a lower level, two of the above three, or even all of the above. Here's
a simple tree:

* Waypoints are links from a certain "out of town" to what else but the
town (or ANY OTHER waypoint, which makes it easier to travel directly
from Act 4 back to Act 1). They look differently on screen, but identical
in the auto-map (yes, that grey square thingy) and are simply activated
by the almighty left click. Note that not all the "out of town" sections
have their respective waypoints. The following are the only ones to
look out for:
ACT 1 - Rogue Encampment ACT 2 - Lut Gholein
Cold Plains Sewers 2
Stony Field Dry Hills
Darkwood Halls of the Dead 2
Black Marsh Far Oasis
Outer Cloister Lost City
Jail 1 Palace Cellar 1
Inner Cloister Arcane Sanctuary
Catacombs 2 Canyon of the Magi
ACT 3 - Kurast Docks ACT 4 - Pandemonium Fortress
Spider Forest City of the Damned
Great Marsh River of Flame
Flayer Jungle
Lower Kurast
Kurast Bazaar
Upper Kurast
Travincal
Durance of Hate 2

Quests in Diablo2 are no longer randomized in sets. Instead you
are given a total of six quests per act (except for Act 4 which has only
three quests) and these six never change. Also, you may not re-take these
quests and of course their respective rewards more than thrice (one for
normal, one for nightmare, and another for hell difficulty) And lastly,
most of the quests now do not just involve one task, rather a series of
different ones. Here they are:
Oops!!! under construction!!! coming soon!!! hehe =p

* for the rest of the item sections I won't be including much strategies
because that's what the game is all about---building your OWN strategy
and relying on the items of YOUR choice.

* These are the items whose description is written in plain white text.
Only for beginners who still cannot afford or haven't chanced upon an
item described in blue (magic), green (set), yellow (rare) or better
yet gold (unique) text. It does nothing besides what it should (inflict
damage, increase armor, etc.)
* The Defense and Min/Max Damages listed here are in an approximate-average
format, meaning you can still find items with stats greater or less
than the ones listed below.
