2. Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This guide was written from my own Escape Velocity: Override experience. I
hope you will benefit from this guide. Most everything in this guide is fact,
there are very few (if any) of my own techniques and methods of attack. If you
want to use this FAQ for any purpose please ask me first. Thanks
3. Trading
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trading is (at the beginning) the only thing you should be thinking about,
that and not making any enemies. When you first start you will only have a
shuttle, a very small amount of credits and absalutily no protection. Until you
have a decent ship and some fire power you should never fight, because you are
likely to make enemies and with a small ship you won't last very long. First
you should concentrate on getting some missions and trading. But Missions come
fist so I'll cover them first. Right now you don't have enough cargo space to
carry much cargo so instead you must look for high paying missions. When you
land on a planate there should be a button that says: Mission Computer, if
there are any missions. Click this button, there will be a list of missions.
Click on the missions that pay the most and press "M" to bring up the map.
There will be a green arrow by the system where the cargo needs to be
delivered. If it is to far away than don't except it. But if it is within a
reasonable distance press the button that says: Except Mission. Except any
other missions that are along the way and leave. Press "M" to view the map, now
set your rout so you land on all the planets. To drop off the cargo just land
on the planate. When you get to the last system, land and except more missions.
Keep doing that until you have enough money to buy a ship with more cargo
space. Now that you have a ship with more cargo space I'll explain trading.
When you land on the planate you will see a button that says: Commodity
Exchange, Click on this. A window will appear that shows what commodities are
available for trading. Find a commodity that is marked at low or very low and
buy until you don't have any more cargo space, now find a system that sells the
same commodity and go there. Hopefully it will be at High or Medium if it is
sell all of that commodity. After you have been doing this a long time, you
should have enough money to higher an escort or two, the advantage of doing
this is you can hold a lot more cargo. To higher escorts, land on the planate
and go to the Spaceport bar, click on Higher Escort, It will look like the
shipyard. Look through the ships and find the one with the most cargo, then
click the "Higher Escort" button. There are lot's of systems that are very
close where you can buy a commodity at low and sell it at high I'll list a few
of the best trading routs:
Hatuli
There are two planate in this system.
Land on Gribn and buy equipment, then fly to Thehir and sell the equipment,
while you are on Thehir buy Metal and sell it on Gribn. This is a VERY good
trading rout but the system is swarming with renegades, so you will need either
a very tough ship or a fast ship.
Saalia and Lait
Buy food on Saalia and sell it on the Liat. Buy equipment on Liat and sell it
on Saalia. This is not quite as profitable but is a lot safer.
4. Governments
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To begin flying for a government you simply begin excepting there missions. I
don't mean the mission computer, You will every now and then be asked for help
when you enter the spaceport bar, These are the missions I am talking about.
Igadzra
These people do not like outsiders it takes a while before you will ever get
any missions from them. They have excellent ships and offer a very powerful
weapon after flying for them a long time. Located: right and a little up from
UE. Enemies of Zidigar and Azdigari.
Zidigar
These ships may not look like much but be advised they are very cruel and very
good fighters. They don't have very good missions and don't give you much.
Located: Top right on the map. Enemies of Igadzra and Azdigari.
Voinian
The voinians are very grumpy. They are powerful but terribly slow. They hate
UE and UE hates them. They have good paying missions and lot's of armor after
you have flown for them a while. Located: bottom left on the map. Enemies of
United Earth and Emalgha.
United Earth
United Earth is one of the most powerful nations. They have good trading routs
and have some of the most well paying missions. Located: in the at the bottom
of the map in the middle. They also offer a VERY good ship after a long time of
helping them. Enemies of Voinians.
Marinu
These are ailian traders. They don't really care what you do around them as
long as you don't bother the traders. These are very easy to dominate and are
terrible to fly for. Located: straight up from United Earth. Friends with
everyone. Marinu space is protected by the Zachit (Marinu police) you can do
some missions for them.
Azdigari
These aliens are very hard to make friends with. But they offer lot's of good
ship upgrades that aren't available anywhere else. Located: above Igadzra and
to the right. Enemies of Igadzra and Zidigar, they generally don't like anyone.
Strandless
These people don't offer ANY missions that I'm aware of. Located: Right of UE
and Proxima Nebula.
Emalgha
The Emalgha are a very small nation. They offer some missions and pay nicely.
But they don't really offer much else. Located: above the Voinians. Enemies of
Voinians.
Renegade
The renegades are enemies of everyone. To land on there planets you must offer
a bribe. Located: between Strandless and UE. Enemies of everyone.
5. Ships
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arada Price: 1.0M
This is not bad for a beginner, but since there are other better ships for the
same price I wouldn't recommend it.
Azdara Price: 1.50M
This is an excellent little ship to keep in your fighter bay, if you have one.
Cargo Transporter Price: 75,000
This ship carries LOT'S of cargo but be advised IT IS SLOW and it has
absolutely no weapons for armor. Don't buy it, it's better as a transport.
Crescent Fighter Price: 800,000
These are nice little fighters. But you can't use it as your ship. It has no
cargo and isn't very tough.
Crescent Warship Price: 9.0M
This is one of the best ships you can buy. It has good speed (especially after
you upgrade it) and it has good armor and weapon power.
Emalgha Fighter Price: 150,000
This is not a particularly good ship. I wouldn't buy it.
Emalgha Freighter
This is a typical freighter. It has cargo space but nothing else to back it up.
Not a good purchase.
Freight Courier Price: 1.0M
This is a good ship to buy when you have the money. It has cargo and can carry
enough weapons to defend it.
Freighter Price: 150,000
This is just about the worst ship in the game. It has lots of cargo space but
no weapons or anything else, don't buy it. It's okay for a transport, if you
are still trading.
Helian Price: 250,000
This isn't quite worth the money, in my opinion. Just an average fighter.
Igazra Price: 15.0M
This is one of the best ships you can buy. Unfortunately it isn't available
until you have been flying with Igadzra for a while.
Krait Price: 50,000
These ships are trash never get one.
Lazira Price: 3.75M
This is a very good ship. Not as good as the Crescent Warship, but still very
good.
Miranu Courier Price: 500,000
The Maranu ships are good for trading but nothing else.
Miranu Freighter Price: 800,000
The Maranu ships are good for trading but nothing else.
Miranu Gunship Price: 2.25M
This ship is not very good. Good weapons but no strength.
Miranu Heavy Freighter Price: 1.20M
The Maranu ships are good for trading but nothing else.
Scoutship Price: 100,000
I really like the scoutship. I've even flown several missions for UE in it.
It's pretty good for the price.
Shuttlecraft Price: 10,000
This ship is terrible. Unfortunately this is the ship you start with.
Turncoat Price: 1.50M
This is an okay ship, but not as good as other ships the same price.
UE Carrier Price: 6.0M
This ship is so slow it can't win, if it was faster it would be okay. Not worth
anything.
UE Cruiser Price: 10.5M
This is my favorite ship and is probably the best in the game. But you can't
buy it until finishing all the missions for UE.
UE Destroyer Price: 2.0M
This is the best ship under the Crescent Warship.
UE Fighter Price: 100,000
These are handy to have.
Voinian Cargo Ship Price: 300,000
This ship is terrible. Don't but it. It has no fighting capabilities.
Voinian Cruiser Price: 14.0M
This ship is okay but is very slow. I would suggest a different ship.
Voinian Frigate Price: 5.0M
This is also slow. Not very good for anything.
Voinian Heavy Fighter Price: 300,000
These are okay little fighters to have.
Voinian Interceptor Price: 200,000
These are not quite as good as other fighters.
Zidara Price: 5.50M
These ships aren't too bad, but if you have that much money buy something else.
6. Weapons
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterburner 9,700
To use this press "z". This makes your craft accelerates above normal flying
speed. Very important to have.
Auto-refueller 4,850
This will refuel your ship automatically when you land. I always get this.
Blaze Cannon 4,000
I don't like the blaze because the lasers spread out. However it is the most
powerful weapon against Voinion, but if you don't fight Voinions you should
find something else.
Blaze Turret 16,000
This is the same type of laser, but it turns and fires at your enemies instead
of firing straight, remember to select someone or it won't fire. However it is
the most powerful weapon against Voinion, but if you don't fight Voinions you
should find something else.
Density Scanner 8,000
This shows the size of each ship on your mini map. Really good when you fight a
lot.
Engine Upgrades 1,250,000
These upgrades are expensive but definitely worth the money. This will improve
your max speed.
Escape Pod 4,850
The only time you would ever buy one of these is if you are playing strict
play, If you are not playing strict play don't buy one. When you are killed
instead of just exploding you will shoot out in the escape pod and you have to
start all over again.
Fake ID 1,000,000
This clears your legal status in all systems. I never buy these.
Fuel Scoop 40,000
Very handy, this slowly regenerates your fuel. So when you run out of fuel in
an empty system you can get out.
Fuel Tank 1,450
This little tank carries extra fuel. That means more jumps from system to
system. If you have the money you should buy one there very handy.
Hunter Missile 1,000, 25,000 launcher
The hunter missiles are my favorite missile. They are guided and a lot faster
than the Rockets. Good for almost any kind of fighting.
Rocket 500, 16,000 launcher
These rockets are very powerful, but they are also slow and unguided.
Regional Map 2,500
Expands your map around your current position.
RCS Upgrade 1,250,000
This enhances your ships turning speed.
Space Mines 5,000, 50,000 launcher
Rather hard to get the hang of using, but extremely powerful. Be careful, you
can get yourself killed with these. CAUTION illegal in United Earth Space.
These are only available on some pirate planets.
Shield Capacitor 500,000
This will boost your shields, making your craft stronger. You can find these in
most alien space.
Thrust Upgrade 1,250,000
Enhances your ships acceleration.
Emalgha Cannon 10,000
This cannon is okay, but is no outstanding.
Emalgha Turret 25,000
This is just the same as the cannon only it turn 90 degrees.
Freighter Upgrade 200,000
This converts Cargo space to weapons space.
SAD Launcher 200,000 2,500 for ammo.
This is an alien weapon. It has a very long range but is easy to dodge.
ECM system 150,000
This is a missile jammer it works ok for some missiles. I always carry one.
IFF Decoder
Makes enemies appear red on the mini-map, and blue if friendly.
Phase cannon 50,000
The phase is the best laser in the game. It has a long range and shoots
straight. Unfortunately it isn't very good against Voinians.
Phase Turret 180,000
This is the best weapon in the game, I think. This is the same as the phase
cannon only you can shoot any direction, it will follow your enemy.
Sensor Upgrade 250,000
This little gadget clears some of the static on your mini map.
Dispersal Launcher 75,000 1,000 for rockets
These missiles aren't that good. They are not as powerful as the Rockets in UE
or Voinia. They are not guided.
Defense Launcher 100,000 500 for ammo
The idea is you drop a defence pod when a missile is following you. It is a
waste of space.
Pursuit Launcher 120,000 2,000 for ammo
These aren't worth anything. They are somewhat guided, but I wouldn't touch
them.
Tractor Beam 200,000
This is beam holds your enemy in one position, so he can't move. It's okay, but
when you have a big ship you don't need it.
Repulse beam 500,000
This beam pushes your enemy away from you. I don't use it.
