Halo: Combat Evolved

Graphics: 10/10
Halo: Combat Evolved has some of the best graphics I have seen on the Macintosh yet. The vehicles look amazingly realistic, the people look awesome, and the buildings are fantastic. Halo: Combat Evolved really takes advantage of the full potential that a Macintosh computer has to offer. Not many other Macintosh games I have seen have textures as realistic as these. The lighting is also superb.

Sound: 9/10
Great sounds, obviously taken from the Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved. The sounds on this game are definitely worth turning up the volume on the speakers for. From the gunshots to the different sounds of vehicles starting up - it all sounds as if you were standing right next to it. Halo: Combat Evolved is a fun game to listen to.

Controls: 10/10
The controls in Halo: Combat Evolved are refreshingly simple to learn and master. Within a few minutes of starting this game you will have learned the controls like a pro. The game takes you through - step by step - and tells you what each and every control to this game is. The controls are also very customizable, you simply have to go into the menu and change it!

Game-play: 8/10
The single player game-play of Halo: Combat Evolved is nothing special. You get to go through the different levels and unlock stuff as you go along. The multi-player part is where Halo: Combat Evolved really shines. You easily can go on-line and within minutes you will be playing with somebody! The game-play in multi-player is the same as if it was single player. The only difference is that there are many people playing and that you can chat with them! You can also play multi-player over your local LAN network!

Replay Value: 8/10
The replay value of Halo: Combat Evolved is not the best by any means. You may go back and redo the levels you have previously completed. Once you have completed the game you can go back and replay the entire game at a different difficulty setting. If you are looking for a game that offers you a lot of replay value, I have to say Halo: Combat Evolved is not for you.

Rent or Buy?
Buy! Halo: Combat Evolved is a great FPS game for the Macintosh. You can't go wrong with it! Even if you haven't played a FPS game before – or you are just not a FPS fan – this is a game to pick up! The single player mode will last you many hours, and the on-line multi-player mode will last you many, many more!
