Diablo II: Lord of Destruction

Review by silent hillian

"Hail Blizzard and their glorious new expansion pack!"

After the insanely popular game of the year Diablo, a game like no other, Blizzard knew they had to make a sequel. And after the sequel (which I think is better) did even better than the first, Blizzard had to make an expansion pack. And thank God they did.

In Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, they add a myriad of new things. 2 new character classes, a whole new act with 6 new quests, and dozens upon dozens of new items.

If you are reading this, I assume that you own or have played the second Diablo, or hopefully both. But if you're not familiar, Diablo II is a hack'n'slash game. You kill scores of monsters with either melee attacks, or devastatingly awesome skills. But let's get to the new stuff....

2 new character classes: The Druid and the Assassin. Both of these are reason enough to buy the expansion pack. The assassin is a mercenary, using awesome charge-up moves, and deadly finishing moves to defeat her enemies. She also uses lethal traps to destroy her enemies without even touching them. The Druid, which I love, is Lord over nature. He can summon wolves, vines, even grizzly bears to help him. He can make volcanoes incinerate his enemies, and tornadoes blow him away. He can even transform into a wolf or bear! Sweet!

A whole new act: A new act with new monsters, new items, and one last Prime Evil to take out. The last act is filled with terrible monsters and challenging quests that will keep you begging to play more. Of course, it's even better on battle.net, which is what LoD is primarily for.

Graphics: 10/10
I never found anything wrong with the graphics when my screen was 640x480. But will the 800x600 screen, it's perfect. There are no more pixels, and everything shows up beautifully. The only drawback is that if you run 800x600, the game gets kind of laggy. It's up to you. Personally, I see nothing wrong with the 640x480.

Plot: 8/10
This is just a little lower because the plot in LoD makes a little sense. Apparently, you need to kill Baal before he can get to a magic stone which can resurrect his brothers. Pretty convenient, huh? Other than that, the story is good. No other complaints.

Replay: 10/10
Not a night goes by that I don't play this game. I've spent 5 consecutive hours playing this game online. I love it. Everytime you ''Save and Exit'' Diablo II, new monsters appear where you were. And online, the whole map changes! I've never had the same map twice. Plus, it's great to play as all 7 classes with their unique skills. I could play this for hours and not get bored.

Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay in this game in unbelievable. I love to use each character class, and find the different ways I can kill monsters. Sometimes you can smash them into a thousand frozen pieces! The game is challenging, so you won't just beat it right away, but it's not so hard that you die as soon as you step out of town.

Final: 10/10
And why not? This has what every game needs: great gameplay, nearly infinite replayability, fantastic graphics, and a decent story. What more could you ask for from a game?
