Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness

Review by Menji

"Good but not as good as Warcraft II BNE"

Warcraft 2 is in my opinion the best sequel of all time. Even compared to WC3 it still shines as the top point in the Warcraft series. With so many new additions to the original it's no wonder there were so many people who bought this game.

Gameplay: 9/10
The campaigns are very fun and different for every new map you play. It's not just, “Build a base, and go kill the enemy.” It's more of a. “Take these few troops and go kill these guys to control their base, then transport this hero to this place without him dying.” And that's just one of the many missions that come to you. The last part I'd like to talk about is the ability to create your own Map, using the Map Editor you can customize every little aspect you can think of, this feature adds so much more to this game and leaves the original in the dust.

Sound/Control: 9/10
The sounds in this game are great, having each character have his own unique set of phrases that he says, which truly separates this game from the greats. The background of in-game play is also very nice too listen and is arguably the best theme for this type of game. So basically the sound in this game is perfect and fits it so nicely you'll be dazzled.
Controlling in this game is straightforward and very easy. You click where you want to go and your guy moves there. What's good about this game is that your units respond nicely and don't move somewhere where they shouldn't go, but will sometimes attack when you don't want them attacking because you're about to launch a secret attack.

Difficulty: 7/10 (Bit to Hard)
Ok the game does have that difficulty edge that most games are adjusted to now. Starting off in the campaign it's pretty straightforward and most players can beat it with one try. When you start getting to the middle and end, it can be so frustrating that you have to resort to cheats, which they then stick with you and whenever you play you will have the urge to use them.

Graphics: 9/10
Simple put these are the best graphics of any game of it's time. I will admit the trees can look a little repetitive but that doesn't take any deep part out of the game. The characters on the other hand are very nicely done giving more depth to the game, the fires on buildings almost look real, but the buildings are very nicely done with much much detail.

Replay Value: 8/10
Since this was the first WC2, it's not as fun as the newly WC2 BNE (Battle.Net Edition) but it's still a very nicely made game. It will keep you busy for awhile

Final Evaluation: 8/10
There might be some consideration for this game, but I believe you should get this only if you can't go online otherwise defiently get the BNE one

You Should Get This Game If:
-You like great value games
-You like nicely made games
-You want to experience the prequel of the much talked WC3
Don't Get This Game If:
-You have tried this out and didn't like it
-You don't like semi bloody games
-You only like nice “sissy” games
-You only want the best games/graphics out there
