Not sure what you mean by find. If you go through the adopt part of the pound and keep checking different pets you may see a rare pet occasionally, however you may need a 4 month + account to see the good pets (not sure if that rule still exists).

Just realised my first answer wasn't the best. If you don't really care what the species/colour is, you should invest in the lab ray, costs around 700,000NP right now. This can change your pets colour/species into nearly anything (except for pirate/usuki/plushie/baby/royal/draik/krawk. ) You can try creating LE pets (such as poogle or chomby) on that pets pet day - there are often pets of that species released then.

Apart from that, you will need to transfer the pet, or paint it yourself. Unless you get lucky with a fountain faerie quest.
