Tibia

"Simple. Addicting. 2006 Review."
I've been playing Tibia since 2004, and it's changed alot since then. If you read the older reviews here, you'll see how they'll talk about problems that aren't relevant anymore in the newest version of Tibia. However, there are still flaws since every update CipSoft makes has its ups and downs. But here's my review for 2006 (note the year as games changes dramatically every year):
Story: 2/10
Stories for most MMORPG's aren't very strong and unfortunately Tibia is one of them. I wish more MMO's had a story. This is basically a medieval world that you grow into and eventually become someone whether it be a great or lousy someone. But if you need astoryline, here's one:
Some gods make Tibia (CipSoft), people live there, kill animals, kill people.
Gameplay: 8/10
This part of Tibia is a little difficult to judge. The battle system is pretty ABC as you attack monsters and gain levels. You have different weapon skills and non-weapon skills to train on such as fishing. And also you have four vocations each with drastically different abilities. The training part of Tibia is probably the best system out there now although the 2006 summer update has brought some downers.
If you were attacking a monster and someone comes and does more damage than you, you can say goodbye to the stuff you were gonna get in that monster 'cause now it's based on who does the most damage. Also, you now have a stamina bar so you can only stay for two days straight if you're that addicted (haha). The stamina bar is probably the only downer most gamers won't have to worry about as it grows back to full stage while you're logged off.
Tibia's PvP (player vs. player) combat is also the best there is. You can PK basically everywhere except depots, temples, and houses. There is a limit however to the PK system. 3 unmarked players a day or you'll get a red skull and drop all you got when you die.
Sound: N/A
Still no sound :) But IMO, I find no sound to be a benefit for most of these game genres. I would find sword slashing and screeches of pain along with mediocre music to be too much. Runescape is a perfect example of this. They (Runescape) make it even worse by putting UNLOCKABLE music. :P So I say I would prefer Tibia not implement sound anytime soon unless they have a surefire soundtrack.
Graphics: 9/10
I have to say that 2D is still in for me. Most 3D out there is either too flashy or just dull. I mean, there are 3D ones that are awesomely beautiful, but most of the free ones are just eye-sores.
Community: 10/10
Tibia must have THE BEST communities ever. You can always find someone to help you, and you make friends so quickly and easily. The way they do it is they have about 700 players per world and all of them are usually living in the same city for most of their lives meaning you get to know all the players in your town after a while. Of course, a great community needs an equal amount of villains and Tibia does it just right.
Replay Value: 11/10
What can I say... it's addicting.
I hope this review gives you the yearning to try it out. :)
