Dullscape
Runescape is an online MMORPG, you take on a role of a named character (of your choice) and then level up his or her skills. The matter of fact is, there is a high advantage to the "noobs" in game. In comparison, I am a member of Runescape also. Why does a member give such a horrible rating to Runescape? Because it has some flaws that needs to be fixed, although Jagex can not cater to everyone at once, they should at least consider the high levels in this formula also. Jagex comes up with weekly updates that is supposed to improve the gameplay and make it more fun. All the updates that ever pop up are: quests that have no meaning and no extension, armor and items that are used for a day, then any other feature in the game they thought was supposed to be successful in game, but it was not. I also want to mention this game is based off Java Programming. The graphics can not and will not be all technical. If they were then everyone would have to pay a lot more money just to be a member. There are a lot of downsides to Runescape, and not a lot of good parts about it. There is a lot to say about a game that a lot of people play. Hopefully, if a Jagex Moderator or Jagex Staff reads this, then they will come to realize that Runescape can be a perfect place.
Catering
Basically, Jagex caters to the noobs. Noobs are referred to as "people who are acting immature" or if a high-leveled person can not come up with a good come back then they will use this word. Jagex has created new systems for them to use to easily get around the Free Member world. No one before that had this system. Everyone before they created a certain update had to be lost, stay lost, gain money, lose money, and do it all over again. Jagex is a growing company, but they do not cater to the high leveled members. When was the last time they actually threw out a quest that took some trouble to get rhough? You got the answer right, NEVER! Jagex tries their best to balance the updates between the newbies and the veterans. They just are not balancing it quite enough. Hopefully they realize that they can balance it to an extent to where they can make everyone happy. How can that happen? They can create a quest with a level 1,189 who can hit through prayer three times in a battle. This will, unfortunatley, create mass panic, but hey, you took the risk of doing this quest. So you can not really cry about something Jagex did not make you do. It will also keep high levels occupied for the time. That could be a very difficult quest to accomplish, the monster could hit an 80 on you! That is just my example though, if Jagex actually did make the quest, there would be havoc everywhere in the Runescape world. If you become a newbie, do not take things for granted. Make money on your own, do not take it from those "tutors." That's what you were on Tutorial Island for. There are many people who create pures more easily with this system.
People
Jagex can not even take control over their own game. They tell people to follow the rules. That is not the case, no one ever follows the rules. Moderators (people hand picked by Jagex, Jagex thought they were doing a nice job in game and on the forums. So they hire them to clean up the "Worlds" for them. About 1/5 moderators do their job. If you do not believe me, then don't. I did the check myself, the other four moderators told me to "get the heck away from me noob." The first moderator answered my question with good grammar and punctuation. Everyone avoids the censor, everyone breaks a rule every once and a while. Jagex thinks they can take control and ban our accounts. That does not HELP. We can create new accounts, start all over, and break another rule on accident again. Jagex has a bad way of trying to prevent people from doing things. Their rules have major flaws in them. For example: "Rule 1" - "Avoiding the censor to say bad things is still bad." Ok that is a altered quote from Runescape. The flaw with this one is, no one reads the rules. They may not be aware of this rule, and its happenings. Jagex should make a statement that says "Read the Rules before you go ingame, it will not only benefit you, but the Runescape community as well. It is a piece of pie, and it will get half the people who do cuss, out of trouble. Sometimes they do not realize that doing that is bad. Sometimes they do, but if you do state that then it will sort the trouble makers out from the good people who had a bad day.
How Runescape Works
If you are a newbie to Runescape, then you go to the front page and press "Create a new account." You create a new account with an original username and a password. Then you go to tutorial island and finish that up. You get to learn all about the game here, then you back to mainland, you arrive at a place called Lumbridge. Lumbridge is the newb place, this is where the newb's get to familiarize themselves with the environment. Jagex thought that they did not have enough experience on Tutorial Island and gave them tutors and a free teleport to use every twenty minutes? That is really horrible, they should have thought that one over. This had upset many players, they did not have the advantage of having this system when they started. Jagex may want to attract more customers, but if they created a system like this, the people who had an account before that time should get a gift for being with them before the update. Yes it sounds a bit corny, but hey, we were with Jagex way before that! We should get something that supports us also. It does not have to be a party hat or anything like that, just something that shows that we were veteran players. Besides being a newbie, there is also a log in feature for people who have played the game already and created an account. This system gets great after a while, but then it starts to degrade itself. There is the whole mailing system, the part where you are frequently called an autoer, and moe things. The mailing system is horrible, they never send a message to you, and if they do it is for your membership. More than half the people in Runescape never get invited as a moderator. An autoer (or macro) is an account that does stuff without a person being there operating this account. Jagex has recently blamed China for allowing people to do this just to gain money for real life profit. Yeah, I can see China going to war against New England just for Runescape. No, I'm kidding. This is how Runescape works, well the front page anyways.
The Runescape Forums
This is a place where you can barter and merchant your way through things. Hopefully things can go your way right? Yes, that is why the forums is here. Also you can rant about the features in Runescape, or give a compliment to Jagex about how great the game is. You can also suggest a new item for Runescape in the suggestions section. There is a lot to do here, but there are a lot of flaws here also. Jagex does not and can not control the prices in game. The reason why, they just say they can not, but truthfully they can not do anything about it. They just tell us they can not do anything about it, becuase they can not stand up and do anything about it. That is why all the prices in game change, because of merchanters. Besides from Merchants, the forums is a nice place to chat in your off time. Again, the rules are full of stupidity. The Forum Moderators give off stupid automatic responses Jagex has gave to them. Sometimes, the Moderators do not even shut down the thread created for the right reason. Also, the moderators have a stupid system they like to call "strikes." It is just a fake system to scare the wits out of a player. If a moderator forgets about the strikes, they will forget. There is no system there to make them remember. One moderator can say "Two strikes, one more and you are out!" Then the next one will come along and say "One strike, two more and you are out!" What a flawed system, eh? Yeah, this part of Runescape needs to be fixed also. There is nothing perfect so far right?
Graphics
How can you describe Runescape's graphics in one word? Horrible. That is how you describe Runescape's graphics in one word. That is all there is to that system. It is horrible. Everything is edgy, nothing is perfect in that game. Nothing will ever be perfect in that game. Every cutscene, every weapon, every armor, every item, and everything else will never get a good graphic added on to them. The only thing Jagex is doing a nice job on is the animal graphics. There has been a new nice touch to the dragons, bears, rats, and bats. That is the only thing in game that really has a nice graphical touch to it. Other than that, everything is utterly annoying. There is no nice and smooth graphic to it. I have already described the graphics to you in one word, and that is horrible.
Game Play
You go around and level up your skills by doing what it tells you to do. This is fun for the first month or two, but then it gets boring. Then you have to spend a whole day leveling up an attack skill by one. Yes this can be very tedious, yet very awarding. You can get ninety-nine fishing just by standing around and pushing a lobster pot into a water. Skills are not that hard to level up in this game if you have a decent ounce of patience. If you have a lot of patience then you can get through this game quite easily. Just do not play every day and night like the lead player Zezima has. That can be very bad on your face and diet. Just be a good player and try and help others while leveling up your skills, and while you level up your skills you can get gp's, the currency in Runescape.
Play or not to play, that is the question!
Play it. I may have given it a low score, but play it. I only gave it a low score because I got bored of the game. You can get bored very quickly from a game like this. It is to easy to play and it can be very easily done in a year or so.
