Tibia
Review by Aleksandir
"An MMORPG Far off the Mark"
I can remember many years ago when my friend giddily showed me an awesome new game, Tibia. I can remember starting my account, and creating a character. I can remember many things about Tibia. Unfortunately, I can also remember the day I officially retired, with a very different attitude than I started with.
Gameplay: 2/10
Gameplay is the Meat and Bones of any MMORPG. Without good gameplay, you've got nothing more than a waste of time. And that is precisely what Tibia is.
When you begin the game, you will end up on Rookgaard, which is a sort of Tutorial Island. Here, you're supposed to get used to the controls of the game, and in order to get to the Mainland, must reach level 8. It's good and all, but there's one minor problem: There's next to nothing to do. You can fight, chat with people, and...Well, that's about it. Another problem is actually getting on. You see, each server has a limit to how many players can be on at once. If that limit has been reached, only Premium Accounts can get on. The server is almost ALWAYS crowded nowadays. So, you're a free player, and you want on and want sleep too? Too bad. You don't get no online time.
With boredom and server limits running to get in your way, you'll come to main at level 8. Once you reach level 8, there is an Oracle upstairs in the Academy on Rookgaard. You choose which of the four vocations you want to be (Knight, Paladin, Sorcerer, Druid) and head to the mainland. You can then fight new monsters, make runes if you're a Sorcerer or Druid, make arrows if you're a Paladin, or...Well, that's all.
The main problem with this game is that there is nothing to do except fight and make runes and arrows. While fun at first, it gets mind-numbingly boring later.
Audio- 0/10
There is no music or sounds in the game. NONE. You'll have to do without them.
Story- 1/10
There's no real story to it. Roleplaying has gone to the dogs on Tibia, and only a few individuals actually make any attempt to roleplay. You just fight, gain levels, and get new equipment.
Graphics- 4/10
The graphics in Tibia are blocky and awkward, the sprites fuzzy and old-fashioned. While there's nothing wrong with them, as it is possible to figure out what everything is, these graphics are sadly lacking compared to many modern computer games.
Replay Value-0/10
This game is slow and BOOORRRINGGG! There is next to nothing to do, the people suck, and almost all the updates are for Premmies.
Community- -122/10
The Community on Tibia sets records for number of jerks, idiots, scammers, cheaters, and a whole variety of other scoundrels that only Runescape can compare with. Courtesy is gone with the wind on Tibia, and the only thing that matters is power.
Overall-2/10
Tibia is one of those games which makes you bang your head against the desk and cry: It's truly sad that this is a game with so much potential, potential that went down the drain.
