Doom

Review by Rick

"A perfect port of the PC game. Wait, that's bad."

Let me start by saying this. Doom is a good game for letting off steam, solving puzzles, or both. That's it. If and when you get this, don't expect GoldenEye, because FPS games just didn't have that kind of influence and replay expectancy back then. But try to expect to have a little fun.

Graphics: 2/10

Downright pitiful. This look like a DOS game. Seriously, this simply does not belong on a 32-bit system, cartridge or not. The entire game is happily chock full o' clippiness, slowness, blockiness, crappy looking enemies and poor hit detection. If they weren't flashing, you wouldn't be able to tell where the hell the keys were.

Sound: 1/10

Sound? What's sound? This game has music that sounds like my little cousin pounding on the Bass Clef of my piano. As for sound effects. Your stereotypical sounding monster roars and gunshots. That's it.

Gameplay: 4/10

Man, this game will either drive you nuts or please you. For those who buy a game for it's challenge, they'll like it for the various puzzles and secret areas that are anything but confusing. And then we have the freaks of the world who buy a game to shoot stuff. They'll play the first 2 levels and say, ''Great. I can't figure out this stupid puzzle and I've already killed everything in sight.'' Don't take this game like that. Expect to take a lot of time and a lot of thinking. The puzzles and secrtet areas in this game are great things to solve and look for, although not very original. Seriously, name a PC/DOS First-Person Shooter that doesn't recycle it's puzzles and secret areas from the previous games of the genre. Control feels great with the Genesis controller on this game, too. It has an overall quality feel that no PC Joystick will ever have.

Overall Fun Factor: 3/10

Serious graphic and sound problems, not to mention, unorginal premise, make this game's rating plummet. Despite popular belief, this game is not about senseless violence. That's only half the fun! Seeya! --Rick >:P
