Welcome to 'Snow Job' for the 3DO, released by the 3DO company in 1995. It was
one of the last games released on the console.

The term 'snow job' comes from an attempt to deceive or persuade by using
flattery or exaggeration. In this case, however, it is more of a pun as all
the bad guys use names referencing to cold, such as Snow, Ice, Frost.

02.)                    BASICS                                       G0200

Controls:
`````````
The A button is your main action key. Use it to select or interact with
something.

The B button on the other hand cancels any action and backs out of menus.

The C button is your inventory screen. You will need to use this a lot to
check your items, money and read the map.

The START button brings up the main menu. Here you can not only save and load
your game but also tweak some options. The most important option is to set the
time to slow. The game is not as cruel with time as you might think, proving
you actually know what to do. If you are out exploring on your own then this
will be one of the first hurdles to overcome. In short, keep this on low and
only advance time manually if you must. Speaking of which, you can advance the
time in fifteen minute intervals. Once you have left the menu you can not go
back in time (naturally), but you can use the plus and minus icons to set the
time until then.

Use the PAUSE button to stop the videos and pause the game. This stops time as
well. It is a vital instrument at some parts in the game.

The LEFT SHOULDER button cycles through some actions. It also selects different
items, mainly in mini-games. The right shoulder button is only used in the
crossword puzzles as far as I know.


Actions:
````````
There are four action icons in the game. Cycle them with the shoulder buttons.
Remote Control: Use an item, interact with something.
Magnifying Glass: Look at something, read something.
Hand: Take an item.
Lips: Talk to someone.

When you can walk to a location, the icon will turn into gray-ish footsteps.

The actions are only available when they are white rather than gray. Even if
they are white you may get no response from the game, or just a buzzer sound.

On Wires' computer you can browse the web. There are, however, only a handful
of useful sites to visit:

listing mentioned by Wires.


Crossword Puzzles:
``````````````````
Buying a newspaper at the kiosk includes the daily quiz. You do not actually
need to solve this if you already have the password for the secret underground
message board. The password is always the 1-down question, unless it is not
available in which case the 1-across will do. There are often hints around the
areas to help you solve the puzzles. You cycle through the fields with the
shoulder buttons, the letters with the directional pad, whereas A selects the
currently highlighted letter. This is a little awkward to control, so do not
feel bad about not wanting to solve these crosswords for that reason alone.


Inventory:
``````````
One can pick up a lot of items in this game, many of them useless. Your
inventory can only hold 26 items (or so) which means you should either only
pick up what you really need, or discard things that are not necessary any more
later. Most paper printouts or statements are only required to be shown to
someone (i.e. Lara) once and can be discarded. It is a good idea to write down
and information the paper had, however, such as account numbers, phone numbers
or even just times and locations. Too bad the game could not feature a better
inventory system though.


Money:
``````
This will also be mentioned several times in the walkthrough. Money is tight,
in fact so much that I do not know it is possible to beat the game without
cheating. Things you mainly spend money on is buying hardware, subway tickets
and the occasional oddity such as taxi fares. You also make money by selling
equipment, playing craps and taking from others. Craps is risky, but you can
save and load to cheat a little. This location becomes unavailable later in the
game though. To cheat a bit more effectively, log on to the computer and visit
the website money.please for a maximum of $1,000 in your wallet.

DA's Office:

Enter the main office. Turn around towards Lara's office and you will listen
into the conversation. Enter her office afterwards to speak with her.
*You need my help.
*Just listen to the facts.
End the conversation.

When Lara is gone, do not leave her office yet. Walk around her desk and look
at the middle drawer. Pick up the Santos Token.

Exit her office and notice the receptionist. Step outside the DA's office and
return inside to find her gone as well. Walk over to her work area. Look at
the rolodex near the computer (not the one near the fax machine) and check the
different areas within the rolodox to find the contact info for Terry Fahn,
Tony Frost and Lara Calabreze.


Murder Scene:
`````````````
Talk to Luis in the second screen, left of the spray-painted wall.
*Show some muscle.
*Ask about Johnny Santos.
*Ask about the token.
*Okay I'll play.

You have to beat him at craps three times for all the information. Always pick
the info. You can replay him later for money if you want. Do not expect to
spend more than 20-50 dollars here else you might want to reload. If you need
more cash you could always cheat on the computer at Wires'.
 Opens up Avenue A.


Avenue A:
`````````
Turn around and look at the construction. Walk to the yellow building at the
corner which is a coffee shop. Check the orange sign near the door for the
maintenance schedule of the telephone lines.

Talk to the lady behind the counter.
*I'll have a coffee.
*Here's a buck and a $10 tip.
*What do you know about the arcade?
*Have you seen anything unusual?
*What kind of car does she drive?
*What time does she usually arrive?

Note the time she mentions, it differs from game to game. Return outside and
enter the Arcade.

Buy $5.00 tokens from the lady between the counters. Walk to the front of the
arcade and turn right towards the gaming machines. Use the Game Tokens on the
machine next to the left guy.

The game Knock-Out is like Arkanoid but with a top paddle rather then at the
bottom. You have to actually beat this game to see the high score. The other
names on the screen are either Sled, Berg, or Chill. Don't worry too much if
you can't beat the game straight away, its physics are horrible. Save before
playing to save on money for tokens.

Turn towards the back of the arcade and insert the Santos Token in the slot at
the corner to play Phaser Tag. In this game you have to run around and shoot
the images of the opponents that show up. They shoot at you if you take too
long to kill them and if you take too many shots in quick succession you will
not heal. If you shoot the opponents enough, a secret exit will appear. Enter
it and input the high score name as password, either Sled, Berg, or Chill.

After the scene, quickly turn towards the computer and take the printout,
business card, key, crossword puzzle (optional) and the Santos Token. When you
hear the toilet flush you must quickly run up the stairs before getting caught.

Now it is time to check out what you took. Look at the business card and the
printout. The crossword puzzle is a hint of how to log in the website's secret
message board but we know that already. Trow it away if you took it, as well as
the rest of the game tokens (you could play with them instead if you wish).
 Opens up Hermes Car Rental (optional place).


Central Park:
`````````````
Advance the time to shortly before 8:00PM and wait for the scene to start.
*Help Lara escape.
*Investigate the scene.

Pick up Skate's gun and Skate's beeper. Look at the wallet to take the money.
Go right up the stairs. Look at the gum wrapper on the ground and the 45mm
cartridges (a little hard to see). Do not take these two things, however.

phone number (516 555 4510). Use the payphone to dial this number, do not
forget to add the 1 in front.

Wires' Loft:

Use your headphones from the inventory on the TeleTap unit. Pick up the TeleTap
unit. Insert the mini batteries in the SuperTrack and take it with you. Place
the Fiber Optical Lense in the SnakeCam and take it as well as the Remote
Logon. Insert the mini batteries into the Super Tracker and, you guessed it,
take it along.

Install the RAM SIMMS in Wires' computer. Use the computer. Visit li.sound.org
then go to Special Messages and enter TASK as your password.


Avenue A:
`````````
Wait until the time the lady in the coffee shop mentioned the red car is parked
outside the arcade. It will be slightly earlier than she said. For example, if
she mentioned around 3:30 then start checking around 3 o'clock already.

When the red car is parked on the street, look at its license plate and the
sticker in the corner. Place the Super Tracker on the car - when you have the
correct spot it will beep. Wait for an hour after or so (advancing time by 15
minutes each time) and the Super Tracker will beep. Look at the map to see a
new location has been added. These are randomly chosen from a few, such as
Downtown Video or Lingerie Shop. None of these are important but the Grant
Building and the West Side Condo, the rest will never be visited again.


Random Location:
````````````````
Wait for the beep, look at the map for a new location. Go there. Repeat if
necessary.


The Grant Building:
```````````````````
Face the road to see the red car and get a comment from Jock. Use the Shotgun
Mic on the window behind the United States' flag. You will hear a conversation
from inside the room.

Enter the building and pick up the crumpled diagram off the floor. Look at the
directory listing to see the list of firms before leaving again.

Wait for the beep to continue to the next location on the map.


Random Location:
````````````````
Wait for the beep, look at the map for a new location. Go there. Repeat if
necessary.


West Side Condo:
````````````````
Enter the condo building across the street.

Enter the corridor on the right and examine the mailboxes on the left to find
out about an empty apartment. Return to the lobby and enter the golden
elevator. Walk left and enter the apartment. Outside on the balcony face the
right side and use the SnakeCam on the window for a scene.


The game auto-saves at this point when it starts the next day. You have to
continue with Disc 2.

Pizza Real:

Inside the pizzeria, use the Santos Token on the single pizza on ther right of
the clerk, slightly behind. You will get the pizza and a comment from the guy.
Open the pizza in your inventory to find out the destination. This could either
be Manhatten, New Jersey or Staten Island. Make note of this somewhere as you
will lose the pizza soon enough, but might want the location info later.
 Opens up North Shore Marina.

Your next destination is North Shore Marina. If you are low on cash the game
will automatically end here with the "Game Over" screen. The cab ride will cost
you $35.00. You should go to Wires' Loft to cheat on the computer if you want
to continue playing. The money is quite tight in this game so don't feel
embarrassed about cheating in this case. You must get to the Marina before
4:00 AM.

Pay the driver. After the trip, tip the guy $7.00. I think else you can not get
a taxi ride back later as he will not stick around.


North Shore Marina:
```````````````````
Turn slightly right and walk down the path to the pier. Turn left and walk up
the pier to a buiding at the end. Place the pizza on the long fridge next to
the stereo system. Take a taxi ride back to Wires' place, this time only
tipping the minimum amount.


The day automatically ends here.

and the red clip to the bottom right wire next to the last screw. You switch
clips with the left shoulder button. Press A and use the D-Pad to enter the
phone number 1252. You will find yourself back outside.


Wires' Loft:
````````````
Use the computer and select the disk icon. Print the messages. Note the time
you should be at Bull's Bar, it changes from game to game.

Talk to Wires again if you want, this is not really important.
*Ask about Rockslide.

Drop off the TeleTap unit as well as the rest of audio/video equipment (i.e.
SuperTracker) you may still have in your possession. Unless the game says the
item will be lost, you can always return here to get it back.


The Grant Building:
```````````````````
If you are past 6:00PM you need to open the front door with a small puzzle.
Remember the crumpled paper you picked up? The top row is 123 and the bottom
row is 321. I would say you are here well before six o'clock though, so just
walk in and wait around in the lobby until after six. The staff will be gone
and you can enter the elevator undisturbed.

Ride up to the first floor and turn right. Pick up the keys from the cleaning
cart and ride up to the second floor. Turn left and enter the first office with
the set of keys.

Inside, look at the telephone on the desk and the fax near the computer.
Interact with the computer monitor and solve the sliding puzzle. Even if you
hate sliding puzzles, this one is quite easy. The trouble is the awkward
control system.

When you are in, select the NorthEast Bank and print both the receivable and
accounts payable. Select the Island Bank and print the transactions. If you
need inventory space, throw away something like the crumpled paper, game tokens
or the two pieces of equipment I told you to leave at Wires' should you have
not done so.

With all three print-outs in hand, use the Remote Logon with the computer case
underneath the monitor. In this neat mini-game you have to first select the Set
DIP switches (left shoulder button changes actions) and flip the first one up,
second down and third one up. Inside the case, remove the short modem card and
install it in the slot above to make space for the new Remote Logon card.
Install this card in the new available space. If the system complains about a
serial conflict you have to reverse the DIP switches so that the first one is
down, second up and third down as well. Finally, connect the Remote Logon card
to the modem by using the cable. When all is done the game will automatically
move on.

Before you leave, return the set of keys to the cart on the first floor to
remove any suspicion.


Bull's Bar:
```````````
Wait in front of the bar until it is 11:00PM. Then go into the alley and enter
the bar through the kitchen. Save your game beforehand!!

Quickly pick up the items from the open briefcase before the conversation
starts. You only have less than 1 minute game time to do this. You can also
talk to her to begin the movie.

After the scene, select
*Stall for time.
*Distract him.

In this action sequence, you have to run around in a top-down view. Turn Jock
with the direction buttons and forward is to proceed. You can easily get stuck
in corners so be careful. You are also being hunted and getting caught up is a
bad idea. A tip is to pause the game. You can still make out a lot of the area
and this keeps your from stressing out. The heartbeat sound does not help
distracting you either.

Start running northwest into the alley, not directly west of course. Follow
this around to the north and eventually east again. You will then have to
zigzag around some trash as you continue east.

When you arrive at wide road, continue east past the green traffic lights and
through the small yellow barriers. Turn south, then east and north again around
the same building.

You have to turn west here but almost immediately turn north and back east at
the northern end. When you reach the wide road again to the south, enter the
small alley to the east side that looks like it is actually blocked off most of
the way. You can get past this debris on the left side though. Follow this to a
triangular-shape building. Run around the south side of it, the path is not
blocked as this gray metal square is just an overpass.

On the other end you will see the white fire escape ladder in the corner. Run
into it to end this sequence. You can also not save during or after it, and you
are not done yet!

The second part is also timed, although it does not seem like it at first. If
you take too long you die. Remember that you can pause the game and check out
the area. Use the left shoulder button to drag the first board to a corner of
the building that is close to the opposite building. The buildings always
change from game to game. Your aim is to build a bridge by rotate the first
board over a corner and then drag the second so to have one end on top of the
first board, the second end reaching the other building. The two boards will
have a close to ninety degree angle to each other. Your bridge will look
something like this:

When you have rotated the second board into place the game will move on to a
short conversation and automatically end this day.

Talk to Wires about his Tokyo hacker friend, the Asian Ace (AA) and what needs
to be done. Walk into the back of the apartment and talk to Lara.

*SnakeCam surveillance videotape.
*Printout of arcade phone tap.
End the conversation to have Lara convinced.
*Get the goods on the DA.

West Side Condo:
````````````````
Enter the building. Go up the apartment floor, turn right and knock on the
door at the end of the hallway.
*Police. Open up!
*Yea. Right here.
*No. It's what I can do for you.
*I know something...
*Dusty/Braden surveillance audiotape.
*I want what you've got on the Snowman.
*Anthony Frost.

Leave the apartment floor and walk right from the lobby. You were here earlier
looking at the mail boxes. This time, rummage through the trash bin to find a
Credit Statement and Authorization Number. Look at both in your inventory. You
can also discard the badge at this point.

Optionally you can now return to Wires' Loft to speak with Lara, but you can
speed things up by going straight to the DA's office. I still suggest you talk
to her for continuity and an interesting video clip.


DA's Office:
````````````
Look at the keypad next to the door and enter 2-5-9-1-* to unlock the door.
Inside, walk behind the reception area and look at the desk to open the drawer.
Take the keys. Use those keys on Terry Fahn's office next to Lara's.

Open up the desk drawer and take the Stemple Statement. There is also a smudged
piece of paper with some numbers.

Look at the middle section of the cabinet behind the desk to find a safe.
Interact with it to start a cracking game. Set the left tumbler to 7, then move
the right one (switch with the left shoulder button) to 4 - the handle should
move. Set the left tumbler to 1 and right one to 2. On the third go, set left
to 5 and turn the right tumbler until the safe opens. Before you try to take
the items make sure you have enough room for gun & equipment and another key.
 Opens up Police Academy.

Return to the receptionist's desk and drop off the key you borrowed earlier.
Also close the drawer again.


Police Academy:
```````````````
From your starting position, turn right and use the DA's key to open the fifth
locker from the left in the top row. Take all three items inside: $50,000 cash,
Delores Video and the DA's passport. If you need space, think about what you
can discard, perhaps the Business Cards are still around, the key you just used
to open up the locker is also not required any more. Just make sure you have
the other three items from the locker and do not accidentally close it after
throwing away the key.

End the current day.

Talk to Lara. This is the same sequence as before but this time you have more
evidence. In fact you may have too much evidence as the list only holds four
items. Discard the old stuff you can not use in court anyway, such as the
Arcade Printout (note the time for the Rockslide if you still want to get one
of the alternate endings!). Now you should have this option available:
*Videotape from the DA's locker.
End the conversation rather than selecting any of the choices.
(for an alternate ending, see the Endings section)

You will need some more space in your inventory, here are a few things you may
want to consider discarding: Bull's badge, Teletap diskette, Skate's gun,
several printouts and statements (make sure you have read it beforehand, note
down any additional numbers such as accounts or phones before you discard it!)


United Nations:

Walk towards one of the large dumpsters in front of you. Rummage through the
trash to find a UN printout. Pick it up and look at it in your inventory. Use
the left shoulder button to cycle through the Move, Drag and Turn options. This
is again pretty awkward to do but at least the pieces will stick together when
you combine them. Start by turning them all vertical to make this a lot easier.


New York University:
````````````````````
On the right side of the building is a recycle bin. Take the University
printout from it. Read it.


Telephone Company:
``````````````````
Find the dumpster in the corner, walk there and find the printout. Take it with
you. Read it.


NorthEast Bank:
```````````````
Walk throygh the bars to a dumpster in the background. Take the NE Bank
printout. Read it.


Wires' Loft:

Talk to Wires to find your network account is ready. This will end the day.

Talk to Wires briefly. Use the computer to read your e-mail. Print the messages
from 5/5, 5/6 and 5/7 for some passwords and Geneva bank information, you
cannot get by the next section without them. These are the last three items you
will need to pick up in the game.

Save your game, I do now know how to back out of the next section without
restarting the console, it looks like you get stuck if you miss some
information to proceed. Keep in mind that some information could be changed
from game to game, look into your files and printouts if the bank accounts etc.
are the same before going ahead.

Use the HackNet option in the middle.

Enter the NorthEast Bank telebanking number: 2125551118.
Pick the first account and transfer 1000000 ($1m). Continue transferring money
to the other accounts on the list, each getting one million dollars. There just
happen to be exactly twenty accounts to spread all the wealth. If you select
the same account twice it will mention there is already one million being
transfered.

At this point you can quit HackNet by returning the previous locations one-by-
one, logging off at each place and eventually returning to the desktop views.

Wait for the phone to ring and pick it up.


The Grant Building:

This is the only location you can go at this point. Enter the building for a
scene.

Go to Lara's Apartment to end the game successfully.

GOOD ENDING:

For the real ending to the game, hunt down several phone numbers, hack into the
Swiss bank account and transfer all the money. The bad guys will get upset and
start blaming each other before getting busted by the FBI. Oh and Jack and Lara
get busy in her apartment...but you have to finish the game yourself to get the
dirty details.


DEA:
````
When given the choice while talking to Lara, select "Notify the DEA about the
drug shipment". You will have to give your contact the correct date, location
and time of the shipment. The date is on a poster inside Empire Arcade (yellow
one on the side of counter), the location was inside the pizza box you
delivered on Thursday, the time is stated on the Arcade Tap printout. If you
tell him false information you will see the bad ending.


FBI:
````
When given the choice while talking to Lara, select "Show evidence to the FBI".
You will see a rather long video sequence but ultimately get the same bad
ending as giving false information to the DEA contact.
