"A nice morsel to tempt you for the full game..."

The Policenauts Pilot Disk is relatively unknown. In content wise, it's nearly identical to the PSX Policenauts Private Collection, but has a few different things that warrant a look...

The Policenauts Pilot Disk was released a few months ahead of the full release on the 3DO.It was basically broken unto 5 sections and I will now detail them for you below....

Game - Under this, you get to try your hand in the shooting gallery or play a piece of the prologue from the actual game...

Movie - Here, you get to watch a trailer for the PC-9821 version and watch interviews with 8 different people involved in the games production.

Database - A full encyclopedia of all the terms in the game, broken up by categories.

Making - Here you get to see early storyboards for the game, comments, renderings, etc.

Sound - Self explanatory. You get to listen to 10 tracks from the game.

Now for my review......

Gameplay - 8/10 - Not much to comment on for it, other than the shooting sequences and prologue, but all around, very easy to use controls and easy to navigate menus.

Graphics - 8/10 - A very beautiful game. In the prologue, you get to see many scenes that were redrawn for the full release and the CGs have yet to be added at this point...Still, very nice graphics...

Music - 8/10 - Great tracks to listen to in Music area, but you cannot change the track you hear throughout the rest of the game. It's a good track, but it would have been nice to change it too.

Control - 8/10 - Again, not much to go on. Navigation is easy through all the menus. Where it does it count, like during shooting sequences and the actual game part, the control is perfect and flows very smoothly.

Buy or rent? Hmmm, well, since you cant even rent it to begin with, I actually recommend this cd for purchase. It is 98% identical to the Policenauts Private Collection for the PSX except for the following:

1)You get to play the prologue from the game.

2)Many graphics had yet to be added at this point and many scenes were redrawn, so what you see here only existed in this demo.

3)More interviews

4)In the making of section, you see 2 small videos of the guitar player and the drummer. Not a big deal, but the drummer is none other than TAPPY, famous composer of the soundtrack to Policenauts and Metal Gear Solid.

All in all, a great disc for fans of the game. If you can find it, I suggest getting it. A nice teaser for the full game...
