Version 1.0 (02/21/05): Initial version of document - it's complete.

=============================================================================
     2. Introduction
=============================================================================

Yay, finally a game that people know about! This game even has a guide for it
already! That must mean it's something good. It is something good - this
racing game is both fun and challenging at the same time. You actually need
skill to complete the races because you have to pass over two-hundred cars
that love to get in the way of things. In my opinion, Enduro is one of the
best Atari 2600 racing games.

=============================================================================
     3. Dedication
=============================================================================

I dedicate this guide to all Atari 2600 gamers out there. They really keep
this system alive, even though it seems "dead." Atari 2600, in a lot of
people's minds, was the first gaming console ever created. This really isn't
true, as there were other obscure systems before it. However, this was most
people's first video game system. This is the system that brought them into
gaming. And so, I dedicate this guide to the Atari 2600 gamers that still
play this old system and keep it alive.

This guide is also dedicated to Brian P. Sulpher and AboveAverage. Brian for
showing me that you can write for very old systems. AboveAverage for showing
me which system to write on... the Atari 2600!

Yes, it's a racing game, but it still deserves a proper overview like any
other game. In Enduro, you are the white car at the bottom of the road and
your enemies are all the other cars on the road. The goal is to passed the
other cars and get first before the end of the race.

You'll have to go through grueling whether and tons of cars, though. For the
former, the weather changes as per what time of day it is. If it's night,
then you won't be able to see the cars as well as day. If it's foggy, then
you won't be able to see in front of you. And, as always, if it's the middle
of the day you'll be able to see perfectly.

It turns out that tons of racers are also in the race, as you'll have to race
against at least 200 different cars. They love to go in bunches, too, it
seems. If you hit one of these cars then your speed will go down to nothing
and five or six cars will pass you.

As the road turns you'll have to turn as well. This is where the game gets
especially exciting - trying to stay at an angle while dodging other cars.
Put that in with the fact that all the car can do is accelerate or drift and
you'll have a fun time!

     6. Strategies
=============================================================================

A few good driving tips.

  * In the first level, you'll have to face two-hundred cars in pretty easy
     weather. It will turn from day to night first, and afterwards get foggy
     for a small period of time, but for the most part it will be good
     weather. You don't have to worry about getting first because their are
     only two-hundred cars racing.

  * In the second level, it's almost exactly the same as the first, but
     you'll have to race against three-hundred cars instead of two-hundred.

  * In the third level things get substantially tougher. Instead of the
     normal race you'll have to face traffic that's way more congested with
     four-hundred cars.

  * Do not hold down the accelerate key unless you want to hit another car
     in a hurry. It becomes almost impossible after a while to dodge the cars
     if you are going too fast. Try for a speed that fits your reaction time
     and allows you to finish first.

  * Remember, the perfect speed is what you can handle. If you are going too
     fast you will hit something and lose more time than what you gained.

  * Stay in the middle of the road for the best results. It is a lot easier
     to dodge cars when you have the room. Anywhere in the center of the road
     will do, but preferably the very center because you'll have a lot more
     room to dodge the cars.

  * Another good strategy is to stay on the rail of one side of the road.
     Not many cars are on the rail so it should be smooth sailing.

  * The worst thing you can do in this game is hit another car. Your speed
     will go down tremendously and around five cars will pass you.

  * If it's between hitting a car and the rail, hit the rail.

  * If you accelerated too much stay on one side of the road and keep
     accelerating. This is so you can try to go as far as you can before you
     get hit.

  * The cars tend to scatter across the road, leaving room for you to pass
     them. Try to find the biggest gap - don't get gutsy and hit a car.

  * Try to go the fastest at the beginning of the race because it is sunny
     and less congested than the end of the race.

  * Don't worry about snow - it only makes it harder to see the road.

  * If it's foggy go slower than you normally would. This is because you can
     only see around half the screen.

  * Night makes it harder to see the cars. Go a little slower if you have
     trouble seeing their lights.

     7. Frequently Asked Questions
=============================================================================

Question: How many levels are in this game?
  Answer: Four.

Question: How do I stop accelerating?
  Answer: Stop holding down the fire button and you'll drift instead of
          accelerate.

Question: What is the *best* strategy in the this game?
  Answer: To avoid the other cars. If you hit them you'll lose a lot of time.

Question: Are there different cars in this game?
  Answer: No, you get the same car every game and cannot change cars.

Question: What is the ideal speed?
  Answer: The speed that you can react best. To some, this might be really
          fast while to others it might be slow.

Question: Does the weather change?
  Answer: Yes; snow, fog, and clear.

Question: Does the time of day chage?
  Answer: Yep, from day to night.

Question: Can I play this with a friend?
  Answer: No, you can't.

Question: My game doesn't work, how do I get it to work!?
  Answer: You might have a corrupted version of the game, or perhaps the old
          2 K version, which doesn't work very well.

Question: Where can I get this game?
  Answer: The Atari 2600 hasn't had any new games made for years, so you
          can't buy it from them. You can get the game at a garage sale or
          ebay, if you like. ROMs also work, if you have the game and it is
          broken, that is.
