"A piece of history... and a good one at that!"
Atari 2600 was made in the late 1970's (about 1977). Moon Patrol is one of the older and more exciting games for this system. It is modeled after 2 things - The moon rover (the moon car) and space obstacles and aliens. These 2 things make this game better than ever!
Game Play 10/10
Where do I start? Use the control stick for many functions. Press right to speed up, left to slow down, up to jump, and the button to shoot at obstacles ahead. You can only shoot at ground level. This makes the game a little harder, but still it is great!
Story 10/10
This game has no real story. Like many Atari games, Atari made brief stories or left it up to you. I'll give you a brief story about this game:
The Apollo 11 has just landed on the moon. You are in the moon car (moon rover) and are crossing the moon. You must dodge aliens, shoot rocks, and jump over pits. It may sound easy, but the going will be tough. Good Luck, and come back alive... MISSION CONTROL
Well, there you have it. In case you are wondering, mission control are the people on Earth who make sure everything goes correctly and smoothly, and the astronauts come back... ALIVE!
Audio/Video 10/10
These have to be the best sounds and graphics ever for Atari. From the fire of the gun, to jumping in the air, to crashing into a pit or hitting a rock. The graphics are even better. The colors really help this game. The clear cut graphics and background really help make this game come together.
Replay YES
Atari games were always made with 2 things in mind: To play, and to replay! True to the Atari fashion, you will want to replay this game! The thing about Atari games is the fact that - they are short. They usually come stacked with an endless amount of levels, so all you will do is replay them, and replay them, and replay them!
To Buy YES
Atari games cost about 1 to 2 dollars and are sold at many pawn shops or old electronics stores. Most of the time, they will be on a small rack, or in a big tub. Make sure you find the best copy of the game you can! A good copy has the cover (label and stuff) on it, no holes punched in it, and when you shake it, it doesn't sound like something is loose. Simple things like these will ensure you are getting the best quality, and the highest grade!
Verdict EXCELLENT!
If you want an action packed space adventure game, you don't want to miss an opportunity to play this game!
Don't delay, play today!
