"Time to Slay the Fire-Breathing Duck"

Atari released the first adventure video game called "Adventure" (No pun was intended), and the results are quite amazing. Here's my review of this classic video game.

GRAPHICS--10/10

The graphics are excellent for an Atari 2600 game. The graphics are simple enough, yet amazing. The dragons in this game look over-sized ducks, thus adding comedy to this excellent game. It amazing what you could do with just 4K of cartridge memory.

SOUNDS--10/10

The sounds are excellent as well. When the dragons try to eat you, the game simulates the sound of a dragon roaring and breathing fire at you. An there's sound effects for when you pick up an item and drop an item. Another factor is the end music. It's not much to listen to, but gets the job done very well. Over all, the sounds are amazing.

CONTROLS--10/10

The controls don't get as much simple as these. You move the joystick to move your character, and the fire button handles your current item. The Reset switch makes an excellent use for reviving your character when he's been eaten by the dragon. Overall, the controls are so easy to learn, even a noob can master them.

STORY LINE--10/10

Yes folks, video games had story lines even in 1978. The Evil Wizard has hidden the Holy Grail and it's your job to recover it. The story line may be primitive now, but is still as fun to hear when you read the instruction booklet to this game.

GAME PLAY--10/10

The game play is a blast. you'll have all sorts of fun when the bat trades the item you have for an item that you really didn't need at an inappropriate time. When you play the game on skill level 3, the items and dragons are put into place at random, thus adding some challenge to this game and the fun really increases when you discover the programmer's credit (Warren Robinett). All in all, the game play is excellent.

OVERALL--10/10

This is by far, the best game you can get for the Atari 2600. You'll have lots and lots of fun with this game.
