""You can fight like a Robot.""
This has to be THE best version of this game. It created a feeling of suspense that made playing it quite exciting, even though this isn't the best looking 5200 game. You don't even have to turn down the lights to feel the effect. Suspense/horror video game designers of today should find this system and game, play it and take a lesson from it.
Story: 2
Not much of a story...you have to destroy as many robots as possible before they destroy you first.
Gameplay: 8
Shoot robots with your laser. You can't touch the walls because electricity runs through them. This doesn't sound very exciting, but it really is. Your character moves around like he/she is creeping very slowly to avoid the enemy. When you go into another room, the graphics dim and everything slowly scrolls in the direction you're walking. You truly have to play it to believe it. The tension this game creates could be cut with a knife. One wrong move and a loud sound almost makes you jump out of your seat. If only all modern horror games had this kind of effect on the player.
Graphics: 7
There is actually a title screen in this version, which is something a lot of 5200 games don't have. The game looks about the same as other versions of this game except that your character is well animated. Like I said above, the way your character creeps around is very realistic. The way the system fades the color on screen during room transitions helps to create the eerie ''I wonder what's around this corner?'' type mood.
Sound/Music: 10
There's no music, but HOLY CRAP, there's full sentences of digital speech! No, there aren't PCM files in the cart, but there are phonemes which create that computerized sounding voice some people are familiar with (if you want to hear what I'm talking about, download Bonzi Buddy, as it uses the exact same method of producing speech). It really is amazing to hear an 8 bit system perform something so advanced. When I played the game, it said, ''You can fight like a robot. You can fight like a robot. Enemy intruders must be destroyed.'' It said more things than this, but I can't remember. Kudos to the developers for performing such a feat.
Sound effects are good too. The sounds that happen when you get killed or touch the wall will make you flinch due to the suspenseful mood that the game puts you in.
Control: 10
Walk. Shoot.
Replay Value: 6
Well, it's only an action game, but if you own this system you can gather some friends around and play it on a dark and stormy night. As long as your friends can get past the fact that it's not a 128 bit system, the game will work it's suspenseful powers on them.
Bottom Line?
One of the forefathers of suspenseful games (perhaps THE forefather?), it will enthrall you with it's ability to create a setting so tense, you just might break out in a cold sweat. It's also a fun action game and a great addition to any 5200 library, which is why I give it an 8.
