Super Breakout
Review by Kamil
"A classic we can not forget"
Introduction
The classic hit Super Breakout which is appearing on many classic collections today for newer systems is an unforgettable game. The days of bouncing a square block to hit rectangles at the top of the screen brought hours of fun to the Atari when it was out. This game is very rare anymore, seeing as video game shops such as EB or GameStop haven't carried Atari games for years, if they ever did.
Gameplay: 10/10
Sure, its simple, but all games were back in the day. Simple games for a simple system was all a kid wanted. Anyway, in this game you basically have a ball and a rectangle at the bottom of the screen, much like the handles in Pong, to bounce the ball on. The object was to hit as many rectangles at the top of the screen as you could. After your number of balls are up, it tells you your score and rates you. There are a few modes, such as regular, and a mode called progressive, where when you hit so many rectangles they started to fall and more appeared. This is probably the funnest mode in the game. There are a few more modes, too.
Controls: 10/10
How can they be simpler? All you will really ever use is the joystick to move your handle. Simple. Move it left to move your handle left, right to move your handle right. Easy, huh?
Sound: 4/10
This is where we aren't so good. The only sound you will hear in this game is the ping from hitting your handle and blocks. But, then again, thats was good for the days.
Graphics: 6/10
The only objects on this game are squares and rectangles, but nonetheless, are still great for the time they were at. The graphics are the same exact as Pong, if you have ever played that (you probably have).
Conclusion
Very good game that you must buy. Its my favorite of the games on the Atari 5200. And like Pong (somewhat), it requires a good amount of hand-eye coordination. I highly recommend it. So if you see it, buy it, because its very rare, even though its one of the most common Atari 5200 games.
