BurgerTime
Review by Mighty Oracle
"A fun game, but getting very old..."
The Colecovision, though old, still has some fun games, and this is one of them. I'll tell you more below.
Gameplay - 8/10
The gameplay is nothing compared to the modern games we have now. However, the gameplay for its time was phenomenal. Basically, you run around with a chef who is supposed to make burgers. You kill enemies to get them out of your way while making the burger, and you have to collect lettuce, the bottom bun, the top bun, and the meat in order to make a full burger. You can use pepper to blind the enemies while you try and build your burger. Other than that, not much to note for the gameplay. It's a pretty fun game, but it gets boring awfully fast.
Graphics - 3/10
Nothing special here, especially considering the games that are out now. The characters/level layouts are not really that good, and the graphics are in no way considered "good" by me at all. They are ok, and good for a Colecovision game, but they do not compare to the games we have nowadays. A 3 out of 10 at most.
Sound/Audio - 2/10
The sound in the game is in no way good, and the only real sound that even fazed me one bit was when you use pepper. Seriously, aside from that, nothing spectacular here. The music, you ask? Well, there really isn't any music in this game, which also subtracts from the score this section could have had. At most, the sound/music combined gets a 2 out of 10 from me.
Difficulty - 7/10
Not too hard, but it can get hard if you put it like on difficulty level 3 or 4, but other than that, the game is actually fairly easy, and doesn't offer much of a challenge. The reason I gave this section a 7 out of 10 is because of how hard the last two difficulty levels can be.
Story - 1/10
There is no story in the game, as I'm sure you already know. You are a chef who has to make a complete burger while avoiding the enemies. You are to collect four pieces, which are namely, the top bun, the meat, the lettuce, and the bottom bun. That's all there is for a story in this game.
Replay Value - 5/10
This game has a little bit of replay value, but not much, honestly. Considering all of the upgraded systems that are out now like the Xbox-360, the PS2, GCN, etc., it just makes this game pretty much obsolete. The game is VERY short, and gets extremely boring extremely fast. With all that, I only give the replay value for this game a 5 out of 10. At best, the replay value is mediocre. Go figure.
Overall - 6/10
The game used to be a very good game back when it first came out and maybe a couple years after, but it's not at all good compared to the other games, as I've said many times in this review, that we have nowadays. I could play the SNES a lot longer than I could this game. Nevertheless, the game is still fun, and I still have that small desire to play it every now and then. The gameplay is the best part, obviously, as I enjoyed putting together a complete burger and defeating the enemies that dared stop me! The graphics aren't good, though, so keep that in mind if you expected some graphics (Not likely you did, but hey). The sound of the game was in no way good, and barely even fazed me one bit. There is also no real music in this game, so that's not good. There is barely a story in the game, aside from you having to collect four pieces to make a complete burger, which are, as I've mentioned twice in this review, the top bun, the lettuce, the meat, and the bottom bun. If you can successfully make a complete burger while avoiding the enemies that try and stop you, congratulations! The game wasn't too difficult, either, except maybe on difficulty levels 3 and 4 they may give you a bit of a challenge, but still nothing major.
Buy or Rent
Well, since you can't rent this game, just buy it on eBay for a dirt cheap price. It is in no way a waste of your money, honestly, it just gets boring fast. Still, as I said before, the game is still fun to this day, and is worth buying if you want some fun when you are completely bored. Don't expect too much, though. After all, this is the Colecovision we're talking about here, not the GCN or the Xbox-360.
And that's the end of the review. I hope you enjoyed the review, and I hope it gave anyone who was wanting to try it an opinion on it on whether or not they should get it.
