- GameFAQs [ http://www.gamefaqs.com ]
Why can't you post my FAQ? Because the above sites are the only sites that
keep UPDATED versions of FAQs. You wouldn't believe how annoying it is to
get an e-mail from someone who has a question which was answered in an
updated version of the FAQ that you posted months ago. It isn't there
fault though, its the fault of the crappy sites who will completly ignore
this notice and go ahead post my FAQ without my permission; which breaks
countless international copyright laws. If you are viewing an out of date
version of this FAQ, or if you are viewing this FAQ on a site which is not
listed above, please contact me: [ mdrake5189@hotmail.com ]
If you would like to post my FAQ on your site, just contact me. If you
want to post my FAQ on your site near ANY type of advertisment, forget it;
IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.
If you are linking to this FAQ, please do NOT link directly to it. You can
NOT link to a URL that ends in '.txt'; GameFAQs won't allow it. You can
however link to the page at GameFAQs which lists all of the other FAQs for
this game.
Please take this serious, seriously. Thanks.

[ Menu Screen ] ------------------------------------------------------------
The Menu Screen can be acessed at any time during the game by pressing the
Start Button. On the Menu Screen you can perform a variety of tasks; such
as: check your status, use items, change equipment, power-up your skills,
et cetera, et cetera. If you prefer a hands-on deal, check with the guy in
each town's General Store.
STATUS SCREEN: A quick glance at the status screen will give you each
character's current HP, MP, and SP levels; you can also see any status
abnormalties the character may currently have. If you select a character
you will be given more in-depth info on him or her.
HP: Hit Points MP: Magic Points
STR: Strength VIT: Vitality
AGI: Agility SPD: Speed
MAG: Magic MEN: Mental Ability
DEF: Defense MOV: Movement
MOVE/MAGIC: On this screen, you can see the list of all of the moves and
magic spells any character is equipped with. You are also able to see how
many Special Coins or Magic Coins are needed to power up a given move or
spell.
ITEMS: If you need to heal a character, this is the place to go. Every
item in your inventory is listed here. They have been sorted into six
seperate catagories: Recovery, Attack, Weapons, Armor, Accessories, and
Valuables. Any item that appears in white can be used, while any item that
appears in grey cannot be used.
POWER UP: This screen powers up your moves and spells by spending Magic
and Special Coins. You can level any move/spell up to a max level of 5.
The higher the level, the more powerful the move, and the higher the ACT.
SKILL EQUIP: Come to this screen to equip skills learned from Skill Books.
You can also un-equip skills here. Later in the game you will be able to
equip more than the starting number of three skills.
SET AI: Personally, I don't find this screen to be very useful; I like to
control my charcters on my own. You can assign the following strategies to
one or all of your charcters:
Manual: You control the character's actions.
Go Wild: The character(s) uses only magic and special attacks.
Play Fair: The character(s) uses only normal attacks.
Safety 1st: The character(s) recovers more than normal.
Power Up: The character(s) raises other allies status.
Meanie: The character(s) uses several annoying attacks on foes.
Withdraw: The character(s) tries to evade and/or defend.
Each Own: The character(s) acts with personality.
CONFIG: Here you can change the default controls, sound, et cetera.
[ Battle System ] ----------------------------------------------------------
The Grandia II battle system may seem a bit complicated at first glance,
but once you get the hang of it, it is a pure blast. If you are familiar
with the battle system of the orginal Grandia, you may want to skip this
section; or you may want to look over it to refresh your memory. The
system is rather unconventional (as compared to Final Fantasy, per se) but
is much more user-involved, which makes the battles somewhat *gasp* fun!
Oh, if you ever need a quick in-game brush-up, check with the tutorial
tutorial guys in the shops (the ones with the "?"'s over their heads).
INIATIVE POINTS / IP BAR: The first basic (and most important) element of
battle is the IP Bar. The IP Bar is the little bar located at the bottom
of the screen during combat. Every ally and every enemy has a designated
icon on the IP Bar. Each icon moves from the left side of the bar to the
right side. When an icon reaches COM, the designated character can give
their command; when an icon reaches ACT, the designated character will act
upon your previous command. Initiative Points (IP) judge how fast an icon
moves across the bar; the more IP, the faster it will move. Sounds
complicated, I know; but it really isn't all that hard. Trust me. A
character's progress on the meter will be slowed when they are attacked.
If a character's command is canceled, their IP will drop and they will
restart their movement on the IP Bar. To cancel an attack, you must strike
an enemy with a Cancel Effect attack (such as a Critical Attack), while
they are in between COM and ACT. It is also possible to counter an enemy's
attack by hitting them just as they reach ACT.
There are several commands availabe to select from once your character's
icon reaches COM:
COMBO ATTACK: By selecting this attack, your character will attack an
enemy with two hits. The enemy may dodge the second hit; if the first
hit kills the enemy, the second will be on another nearby foe.
CRITICAL ATTACK: Critical attacks can cancel enemies actions which is a
GREAT advantage. They won't pick up as much damage as a Combo Attack
though.
MOVE / MAGIC: The Move/Magic option is used for Special Moves (a la Skill
Books) and Magic Spells (a la Mana Eggs). The character must have enough
SP or MP to pull off the attack.
ITEMS: Pretty elementary stuff here. You can use any of your items from
this selection.
AI: Here you can change the automatic strategy for any party member during
battle. You can choose from the following strategies:
Manual: You control the character's actions.
Go Wild: The character(s) uses only magic and special attacks.
Play Fair: The character(s) uses only normal attacks.
Safety 1st: The character(s) recovers more than normal.
Power Up: The character(s) raises other allies status.
Meanie: The character(s) uses several annoying attacks on foes.
Withdraw: The character(s) tries to evade and/or defend.
Each Own: The character(s) acts with personality.
EVADE: Use this command when you don't have enough time to counter an
enemy's attack. You will be given a few options of where on the
battlefield you can run. This can come in mighty handy.
DEFEND: When you don't have time to counter OR evade, use Defend. By
defending, you are able to absorb some of the damage from the enemy's
attack.
ESCAPE: When you don't feel like fighting, for whatever reason, just
escape and you're home-free.

SPOILERS: I don't like 'em and I've done my absolute best to try and avoid
'em. Of course, one or two will sneak their way in the guide but
I've done all I can to make this guide SPOILER-FREE.
[ Witt Forest Path ] ------------------------------------------------------
Enemies: Mottled Spider (250)
Items: Wound Salve (x2); Yomi's Elixir
Weapons: none
Armor: none
Accessories: Blizzard Charm
Special Items: Hand Grenade
------------------------------------------------------
Once you gain control of Ryudo, run around for a minute
or so to get a feel for the controls. Once you are
satisfied, head to the right and make your way around
the pond. Pick up the WOUND SALVE and the POISON
ANTIDOTE and continue on the path past the waterfall.
Just past the ladder you will see your very first SAVE
CONE (Awww... isn't that special...). You should go
ahead and save. You can also fully recover at these
cones, but that isn't neccessary right now. [ NOTE: you
should save every oppurtunity you get throughout the
game. ] Once you finish saving, climb up the ladder and
snag the BLIZZARD CHARM inside the chest; head back
down the ladder beside the chest. You are now on the
path to Carbo Village. On the path, you will encounter
your first enemy, a Mottled Spider. Use Combo Attacks
and you will easily destroy it. Further down the path
you will find another chest; inside are a WOUND SALVE,
a HAND GRENADE, and YOMI'S ELIXER. Loot the chest and
continue on to Carbo Village.
[ Carbo Village ] -- ------------------------------------------------------
Carbo Inn:
Save and Rest

Carbo General Store:
WEAPONS: Falix (500G); Shamshir (620G)
ARMOR: Cuir Bouilli (500G); Leather Armor (750G);
Climbing Boots (200G)
JEWELRY: Heavy Stone (120G)
ITEMS: Medicinal Herb (10G); Wound Salve (24G);
Poison Antidote (14G); Paralysis Salve (14G); Eye
Drops (14G)
REGONAL: Mushroom Cloud (20G); Goblin Toadstool (30G)
------------------------------------------------------
Once you are able to move freely, head to the Inn (to
the left). Here, you can fully recover and save your
progress. When you finish your business at the inn,
head across to the General Store. Inside the General
Store, you may want to talk to the man with the "?"
over his head. He can provide information for you on
several topics concerning battling. When you are done
with him, move over to the counter and take a look
around. Buy five to ten Medicinal Herbs, and few Wound
Salves; you should probably pick up one or two Poison
Antidotes, Paralysis Salves, and Eye Drops as well just
to be safe. Be sure to stock uup on Mushroom Clouds
and Goblin Toadstools from the Regional menu too.
Leave the General Store and head towards the fountain.
Around the fountain you will find several villagers; it
wouldn't hurt to talk to these guys. You should also
check out the houses surrounding the fountain. In one
house you will find and elderly old lady. Be sure to
talk to her; she has all kinds of useful info. After
you finish yaking it up, head on over to the large
church.
When you are finished at the church and you arrive back
at the Inn, tell the owner, "The Priest told me to wait
here." Carius will arrive and explain your mission: you
are to escort Elena to Garmia Tower to perform in a
cermony; when she is finished, you are to return her
safely to the church. Now, head back to the church to
pick up Elena; then exit the town and select "Black
Forest 1" on the World Map.
[ Black Forest ] --- ------------------------------------------------------
Enemies: Mottled Spider (250); Dodo (230)
Items: Medicial Herb; 50G; Myriad Power Nut
Weapons: none
Armor: none
Accessories: none
Special Items: none
------------------------------------------------------
AREA ONE: Start heading up the path through the forest,
don't miss the MEDICINAL HERB in the patch of dirt on
the right. Down the path the pair is attacked by two
Dodos. Ryudo is alone on this one but its no big deal;
just use Combo Attacks and they will be dead before you
know it. After the Dodos, move on down the road.
AREA TWO: In the cleared area ahead, you will encounter
two more Dodos; deal with them in the same way you
dealed with the first two: Combo Attacks. When you
reach the four-way fork in the road, head to the paths
on the right, you will find 50G and a MYRIAD POWER NUT.
Keep moving and you will reach Garmia Tower.
[ Garmia Tower ] --- ------------------------------------------------------
Enemies: Mottled Spider (250); Gargoyle (380)
Items: Wound Salve (x2); Yomi's Elixir
Weapons: none
Armor: none
Accessories: Blizzard Charm
Special Items: Hand Grenade
------------------------------------------------------
FIRST FLOOR: After Ryudo and Skye come running in, head
to the save cone to the right. Once you are fully
recovered and you have saved, begin engaging the
Mottled Spiders in combat; these guys are easy and
they'll give an extra little EXP boost. There isn't
much to the first floor, it's just a giant circle. Be
sure to check out the little rooms to pick up some
extra items (a HAND GRENADE, 150G, and a WIND CHARM).
You should equip the Wind Charm to Ryudo as soon as you
pick it up. If the Mottled Spiders beat you up, you
should head back to the Save Cone. Once you are ready
to proceed head up the stairs to the second floor.
SECOND FLOOR: Not much happening here; just follow the
hallway and grab the 50G. Head up the stairs to reach
the third floor.
THIRD FLOOR: Head to the door to the right and fight a
Gargoyle. The Gargoyles are a bit tougher than Mottled
Spiders, but with the Wind Charm equipped it's nothing
you can't handle. After a few fights you should level
up for the first time. Fight a few more Gargoyles in
the door to the left, then go straight down the small
stairway. Head right and keep going until you reach
your next Gargoyle. Just past him you'll find 150G.
Head back and pick up the WOUND SALVE. Make use of the
Save Cone before heading up the stairway.
BOSS FIGHT: Two Gargoyles
Before this battle begins be completly sure you have
the Wind Charm equipped; it will make this battle a
whole lot easier. With the Wind Charm, these two aren't
much to worry about. You should try and take them out
one at a time; concentrate all of your attacks on one
Gargoyle until he is dead, and then move on to the
next. Just keep hitting them with Critical Attacks and
their magic will be canceled. Whenever you are ready
for the kill (their HPs should be around 150 or so)
start using Combos.
After the fight, when you regain control of Ryudo,
attempt to open the door; it won't budge. Go to the
window and break through.
[ Back in Carbo ] ----------------------------------------------------------
When you make it back to the church, Ryudo will have a
lengthy conversation with Carius and you will learn
your next mission. Ryudo is to once again escort Elena;
this time to Granas Cathedral.
Outside the church, you will automatically enter a
fight with Millenia. After the fight, head back to the
church and then to the Inn for the night. In the
morning, save your game and leave the Inn. Before
heading out of town, make a quick stop by the General
Store. With your extra cash you should pick up some
Hiking Boots for Elena (be sure to sell her Pumps). You
should also stock up regular and regional items while
you are here. Now that you are all stocked up, it's
time to head to the Inor Mountains.
[ Inor Mountains ] - ------------------------------------------------------
Enemies: Crag Snake (280); Mottled Spider; Dodo
Items: Magic Mushroom; 150G ; Yomi's Elixir; 50G;
Goblin Toadstool; Poison Antidote; random items
Weapons: none
Armor: Climbing Hat
Accessories: Crystal Broach
Special Items: Hand Grenade
------------------------------------------------------
AREA ONE: Welcome to the always lovely Inor Mountains!
While you're here, be sure to fight in as many battles
as possible to gain as much EXP as you can. When you
gain control of the party, head straight and squash the
mushrooms; you may find an item inside. There is a Save
Cone nearby, use it at your leisure. Be sure to search
every nook & cranny (which there aren't too many of) to
find as many items as you can. When you reach the
actual mountain, begin to make your way up. When you
reach the first fork in the road, head left to grab a
POISON ANTIDOTE, head back through the turn. When you
reach the next fork, go left again and you'll find
150G. Head back and keep going straight.
AREA TWO: Just ahead, you will reach a clearing. The
party decides to call it a day, so they set up camp.
The next morning, continue on your trail past the chest
imprisoned by the boulders. Keep going and you will
come across a rock balanced on a wooden plank. Push the
rock off the plank and it will roll down the hill,
clearing away those boulders. Head back down the hill
to the chest and pick up a CRYSTAL BROACH (which should
be equipped to Elena right away). Avoid using the newly
opened shortcut, head back up the hill. When you reach
the next bouler-on-a-plank, push the big rock free and
it will roll down into a hole. Cross over it, and you
will recieve a Climbing Hat; equip this to Elena. Keep
heading up the mountain until you reach a ladder. Grab
the 150G in the chest on the right and then make your
way down the ladder. On your way out of the mountain,
be sure not to miss the 50G. Once you reach the World
Map, head to Agear Town.
[ Agear Town ] ----- ------------------------------------------------------
Agear Inn:
Save and Rest

Carbo General Store:
Weapons: Falix (500G); Shamshir (620G);
Army Saber (750G); Iron Rod (720G)
Armor: Leather Jacket; Leather Armor (750G); Quilted
Silk (800G); Climbing Boots (200G); Traveler's Hat
(300G); Leather Bandana (350G); Chain Mail (950G)
Jewelry: Heavy Stone (120G); Sleep Charm (250G)
Items: Medicinal Herb (10G); Wound Salve (24G);
Poison Antidote (14G); Paralysis Salve (14G); Eye
Drops (14G); Smelling Salts (20G)
Regional: Mushroom Cloud (20G); Hand Grenade (60G)
------------------------------------------------------
First thing first. Stop by the Guard's tent which
serves as a psuedo-General Store; stock up on items.
After leaving the tent, head over to the Inn and have a
seat at the bar. A few scenes will take place to move
the plot along.
Once you regain control of Ryudo, leave the Inn. If you
didn't already, you should go to the Guard's tent. Buy
the best weapons you can afford. Also, buy plenty of
healing products; you're gonna need 'em. While you are
at the tent, you should talk to the tutorial man about
magic. You should equip Ryudo with the Holy Egg; boost
Heal and Healer; learn Purple Lightning, and power-up
the Tenseiken Slash. For Millenia, boost her Burn magic
and Arrow Shots move. OK, now that you've got all that
done, you are ready to leave the town.
[ Durham Cave ] ---- ------------------------------------------------------
Enemies: Crag Snake (280); Troglodyte (250); Frost
Frog (400)
Boss: Durham Minotaur (4200)
Items: Fire Bomb; Medicinal Herb (x2); Yomi's Elixir;
100G; 300G; Calming Harp; Poff Nut; Torte's Reed
Pipe; Adventure Book; Hand Grenade; Stone Head
Weapons: none
Armor: none
Accessories: Roan's Medal
Special Items: Mist Egg; Whirlwind Scroll
------------------------------------------------------
AREA ONE: Walk up the makeshift stairway created by the
fallen stalactites. Save your game at the Save Cone and
walk into the cave to the right. Here, you'll meet
Carro. Carro is a small rodent-like creature who
collect Poff Nuts. Before walking out of the room, grab
the FIRE BOMB to the right of the door. You can now
continue on your way. In the next room, jump off the
ledge and push the big boulder through the wall. In the
next chamber, hit the lever and cross the floating
bridge. On the opposite side of the cave, walk past the
torches and snag the YOMI'S ELIXIR. Now, slide the
large rock off the ledge. Make your way to the floor of
the cave and on through the opening.
When you enter this room, you are trapped with four
Crag Snakes; no big deal. Just keep the party's HP up
and you'll be fine. After the fight, the doors re-open
and you can continue. Leave the room and go back into
the larger room. Hit the lever again, which will make
another bridge rise. Retrace your steps, walking over
the fallen rock onto a small overhang. Cross the new
bridge and pick up the MEDICINAL HERB and 100G. Enter
the next room. The doors close again and you are
trapped with bunch of Frost Frogs. These guys are even
easier than the Crag Snakes, but they can still be
annoying. Use Ryudo's Purple Lightning to deal with
them. When you dispose of the froggies, go through the
opening to the left. You'll pick up a SLEEP CHARM and a
POFF NUT. Take the Poff Nut back to Carro, he'll like
this. Make use of the Save Cone and head for the second
area.
AREA TWO: When you enter the area, you'll find Roan
surrounded by three Troglodytes. This fight can be a
bit tough; just use your big attacks like Ryudo's
Purple Lightning and Millenia's Fallen Wings to finish
them off. For your efforts you'll recieve the MIST EGG
and the WHIRLWIND SCROLL. After the battle, Roan will
join your party. Surprisingly, he is a rather good
fighter. Be sure to equip him with the Mist Egg and
learn the Heal and Shhh spells. Into the next cave, you
will be trapped and forced to battle four Crag Snakes.
This battle is pretty easy, especially with Roan
helping out. After the battle, pick up the CALMING HARP
from the treasure chest. Now, head through the next
tunnel into another large chamber. Pick up the
MEDICINAL HERB and the 100G and move to the crates.
Open the left gate and dash inside to hit the lever;
doing so will lower the water and you will be able to
safely cross it. Inside the other two caves, you will
find 300G and the STONE HEAD.
After crossing the bridge, grab the POFF NUT. You will
then be engaged in a battle with three Troglodytes. Be
sure that your party's HP is full before the battle
starts. Use your best attacks (Purple Lightning) and
you should make quick work of these three. After the
battle hit the lever to pull up the second bridge.
Cross it and snag the TORTE'S REED PIPE on the left.
Use the Save Cone and then push the boulder into the
hole and contiue on to reach the final area.
BOSS BATTLE: Durham Minotaur and two Troglodytes
This guy is a bit tougher than your first boss battle
(Millenia). First thing first, you need to concentrate
on taking out the two annoying little Troglodytes. Take
them out one at a time with Ryudo's Combo Attacks,
Millenia's Arrow Shot and Roan's Golden Hammer. The one
move from the Minotaur that can do some serious damage
is his Tornado Horn; this can deliever damage of around
250 PLUS it can confuse. If any party member becomes
confused, use some Smelling Salts to heal them. Use
Ryudo as your primary attacker (Combos and Purple
Lightning) while Roan and Millenia attack and heal as
neccesary. Partway through the battle, Millena will go
berserk and unleash her most powerful spells on the
Minotaur (upwards of 500 damage). Keep attacking
steadily and watch your HP and you should do fine. For
your victory you will recieve your first skill book,
the ADVENTURE BOOK. You'll also pick up ROAN'S MEDAL
from the ashy remains of the Minotaur. Now leave the
cave and head back to Agear.
[ Back in Agear ] -- -------------------------------------------------------
When you gain control of Ryudo at the Inn, recover and
save via Vyx; then chose to spend the night at the Inn.
The next morning, head to the Guard's Tent and stock up
on items; also, be sure to re-equip Elena with the best
available. On your way out of town, talk to the man by
the road, he'll give you a POFF NUT to show you his
appreciation for you defeating the Minotaur. When you
are ready depart to The BakedPlains.
[ Baked Plains ] --- ------------------------------------------------------
Enemies: Dodo(230); Giant Mantis (420); Sandman (340)
| Boss: Beast-Man (4800)
Items: Seed of Running; 200G(x3); 600G(x2); Seed of
Psyche; Seed of Defense; North Wind Cape; Seed of
Swift; Seed of Power; Shell Armor
Weapons: none
Armor: Dash Shoes
Accessories:
Special Items:
------------------------------------------------------
AREA ONE: Not too much to this area, just scour the
place for valuables while fighting off Giant Mantises
and Dodos. Nab all of the seeds you can get your hands
on, they increase your stats and that is a very, very
good thing. When you get the DASH SHOES, give them to
Ryudo. They're a big improvment over the Children's
Shoes he was equipped with. I'd go into greater detail
here, but I'd probably confuse the Hell out of you, as
there are so many different paths to take. It is
probably best for you to search on your own. It is
rather straight-forward.
AREA TWO: From your starting position, head to the
right and you'll run across some rocks near the slimey
pond. Use Ryudo's sword to get rid of the rocks and
ascend the steps; open the chest and snag the HEALING
HERB, the NORTH WIND CAPE, and the POISON CHARM and
head back down the way you came. Head to the left and
you will find some seeds and some cash, nothing that
great. You'll run into some more enemies, blah, blah,
blah. When you pick up all of the loot, head to
area no. 3.
AREA THREE: Use the Save Cone at the beginning of the
area and continue on. After a short bit of walking the
party decides to set up camp for the night. Your party
will awake to the sound of a growling Beast-Man. EEK!
BOSS BATTLE: Beast-Man
The Beast-Man may very tough, but he's not so bad.
Begin the battle by executing each member's Special
Attack. Have Ryudo use his Purple Lightning or Flying
Tensekenu; Roan should use his Golden Hammer; and Elena
should use her Impact Bomb. These attacks should take
off a great deal of the Beast-Man's HP. Be sure to keep
a close eye on Ryudo's HP: the Beast-Man will begin to
zero in on our hero, hitting only Ryudo with his most
powerful attacks. Use healing items/magic and Yomi's
Elixirs as neccesary. Keep pounding him with Special
Attacks and spells like Howl and Zap! and you'll do
just fine. You will be rewarded with a chunk of money
and plenty of Special Coins.
After the battle, head on out of the Baked Plains. Be
sure not to miss the SHELL ARMOR. When you pick it up,
equip it to Roan.
