AirForce Delta
Review by Takezo
"Flight Simulation with good arcade feel."
This is my first flight simulation game for console. The last game that I played (PC flight sim) is F-22 Lightning. And now, I have seen that Dreamcast have the power to handle flight sim games!
Graphics: 8/10
The textures are in low resolution, but it is still nice for my eyes. Little clipping and no slow down (haven't encountered one). The detail of the airplane is very nice (with the placement of missile and extra fuel tank) and moving parts (movable wing, air brake). Poor explosion effects.
Control: 8/10
Realistic enough for console game! The thing that's missing is flight stick controller for Dreamcast. From this game, I also learn the bad side of Dreamcast controller: not enough buttons. At least 2 more buttons for more functions like changing camera perspective (I don't really like the way this game set the button for that function by pressing 2 button simultaneously)and countermeasures (we don't have ECM/Electronic Counter Measure in this game). It is hard to use the gun using the DC controller (no precision) unless the target is very slow. I think a flight stick controller will made Dreamcast an excelent platform for flight sims!
Gameplay: 8/10
Fun and challenging! The handling for the aircrafts is not the same. And it can effect the outcome of your performance in a mission. More than 30 aircrafts to collect (that's what KONAMI claims in the jewel case, haven't finish the game yet). The bad thing is that there is no multiplayer option (either deathmatch or cooperation). And also we don't have a wingman (partners) which means a little bit of frustration since all enemies have locks on you and no one comes to help you. The gameplay is not realistic (you're carrying 60-90 missiles per mission without resupplying) but fun.
Overall: 8/10
Like most of KONAMI's game, a balanced game. I got it for $20.00 from Amazon and it is a fair price to get this game.
