Virtua Athlete 2000
Review by MCahill
"Remember Konami's Track & Field?"
With the Oylimpics here there was bound to be a game for the Dreamcast which offered Oylimpic events. Virtua Athelete 2K is one of the two avaliable. Seven events are offered in this game. Do you remember Konami's Track and Field for the NES? Well this is basically just the same. Instead of the archery, they have shot put and the 1500M run. These two events are the only creative ones in the bunch. The other five are all the same. They all involve pressing two buttons as fast as possible and one other button at the end. The 100M run is just button mashing. The 110M hurdles are button mashing while pressing up to jump over hurdles. If you fall behind in either of these events, you can't see yourself. At least Konami's had a split screen. The long jump and javelin throw are exactly the same where you have to press B at the end for a certain amount of time (angle) except one you are throwing a javelin the the other you are throwing yourself. The high jump is just like them both except you also have to press down to lift your legs above the pole. You also get to set the bar at you hight of choice. How spiffy! The shot put has a strength meter going from high to low very quickly. press and hold b for the angle. It is not difficult at all. In the 1500M run you actually have to pace your button mashing. Can't go too fast or else you will get tired. The only difference between this and the NES version are the graphics. They are the same game. There isn't enough of a game to play. One will get bored very quickly. You can also create what your character looks like. Try and see how goofy you can make your man look.(not difficult) My friend would have asked for a refund if he didn't burn the cd off his computer. This game isn't even worth stealing. Avoid at all costs. I heard that the Sydney 2000 game is much better.
