Capcom vs. SNK
Review by PWolfstien
"Finally a good versus game! And man, it is good!"
I only have one thing to say. I LOVE CAPCOM! Not only have they recently given me such games as Street Fighter Zero 3, Street Fighter 3 (the series, and more importantly 3rd Strike), and Vampire Savior, but now we have Capcom vs. SNK! This game really rules, especially the Japanese DC version (which is what I'm reviewing) Now, onto the review.
Graphics: 10/10
-Whoa! These are real damn good, and I'm NOT lying. The characters are of course 2-D, but the backgrounds are realalistic 3-D (for the most part) they are more realalistic than say Marvel vs. Capcom 2's. All the characters look very well, and really look good with the BEAUTIFAL backgrounds. And SNK fans, worry not, the SNK characters look just as good as the Capcom characters do, which was a problem I thought they would have with this game, but it turned out to a more SNK style graphics wise with the Capcom characters going to a more ''Zero'' look. Oh well, great job no matter what they used!
The moves and all that also look very good, especially the super's wow. From Ryu's fireball (which is re-done again, but looks cool) to Terry's ''Burn Nuckle'' the moves look incredible. My favorite, Zangief's ''Spinning Piledriver'' WOW.
Sound: 10/10
-I thought the sound was top notch. The stage music is done very well, and the sound effects are top notch. Music really fit the style of the game, and the setting's of stages well. This is why Capcom is the God of fighters, perfection every step of the way.
Story: n/a
-I don't really rate stories in fighting games unless they have Dan. This one doesn't, so I have yet to beat the game in ARCADE MODE. I just play people.
Gameplay: 10/10
-THANK GOD that Capcom dropped the ''Marvel style'' and went towards the ''Zero'' and ''King of Fighters'' style. It's kind of a combination. But people, this IS NOT a Marvel vs Capcom/2/X-Men vs SF/Marvel vs SF type game. It's more like Street Fighter Zero (Alpha)/King of Fighters mixed together. Which is what *I* like myself. Besides the basic SF control's you can ''roll'' in battle now which is a great addition for Zangief players like myself :P and you can also dash forward, and backward. And also super jump, not like MvC but like SF33SFFTF. You cannot air block at all (YES!) and also you can't tech roll. One more thing about the gameplay. How you choose your characters is different from any other game I've seen, and personally I love it. Every character in this game has a certin ''rating'' EX-Ryu and Zangief are rated as ''2'' out of ''4''. You get a total of 4 points to make a team meaning I can use Ryu and Zangeif because they are both ratio 2 characters but I can't use Ryu and Gouki (Akuma) because Gouki is a ratio ''4'' character. My favorite team if you care is Ryu and Zangeif. I am your WORST NIGHTMARE! Ha, ha :P
The options this game has for the DC version rule. They include, VS MODE, TRAINING MODE, NETWORK MODE, SECRET MODE, COLOR EDIT, and maybe a few others that I have yet to mess with. My favorite is the GREAT color edit mode where you can make your favorite fighters costumes and even have matching parties! It's really fun and easy to use.
Overall: 10/10
-This game has great graphics, sound, and most importantly gameplay. Plus it's not really just a throw together Capcom and SNK characters. It has a new system which rocks, and added battle features such as rolling. It's really a great game to play.
Conclusion: If you are a big fan of the Marvel vs Capcom style versus games and aren't/and or never played games such as Street Fighter Zero 3 (Alpha)/SF33SFFTF/King of Fighters series, and like the Marvel vs Capcom style of high hit combo's/stupid glitches/and huge super's ect, than this game may not be for you. Personally I like to play MvC/MvC2 every once in a while but they are nowhere near 10/10 material. They get real old after a few plays, especially with the dumb glitches in them. Where as the ''stratagic'' games don't have those and require a lot more time and skill to play. That's just me though.
