Review by Aegis

"Good Ace combat clone, but not enough."

I was very excited for this game when I saw it in a magazine, being an ace combat fanatic, I thought it would be an amazing experience, maybe even better than ace combat 3, but the truth is:

Graphics: 6/10

In the plane selection screen the planes are very well done, with many detail on their body, missiles and paint schemes, also the frame rate in the in-game graphics is very high, just try pass between two buildings at minimal altitude to take a close look at their great detail. Very good indeed.
However, The are two main bad points, one is that your in-game plane looks VERY little, like a plastic toy plane¡, also, the detail has gone¡, it looks very simple, and disappointing. The other bad point is the mist effect, you can´t see more than 100 meters ahead, it´s the classic effect to hide pop-up. If I were playing a psx I could understand, but when you are in front of a dreamcast you can`t accept this.

Sound 8/10

Very well done, from the noise of the engine to the sound of a missile hitting an enemy, they´re pretty good, although
the gun sounds like a silenced pistol.

gameplay 8/10

As a ace combat 2 clone, this can`t be another way: simulation feel meets arcade gameplay, dozens of planes to choice from and fighters and bombers that can carry a minimal of 60 missiles. But it´s NOT ace combat 2, the main difference is that the missiles you fire are, in one word, dumb, It`s like you are firing rockets instead of missiles, the homing capabilities are very low, the max turning of a missile must be about 20 degrees, if that. this makes your enemy to avoid easily your mavericks. That and the low number of missions don`t make up for it.(+$20)

Replayability: 7/10

The only thing that will make you go again for it will be
earn enough money to buy and try all the planes you unlocked after finish with different difficulty settings.

Overall 7/10

If you like planes(as I do), then go and rent it, maybe you will have fun with this, at last for a while, or if you like planes and games with high graphic detail, then go get aerowings 2, but if you like planes, games with high graphic detail, an outstanding gameplay, and a gripping history, you have two choices: First go and buy a PSX with ace combat 3(Japanese version) or second, wait(as I do)for namco to release an Ace combat for Dreamcast.
