Expendable
Review by bsquared
"Pick it up and let the carnage begin!"
Pick up that controller and warm those fingers up because Expendable is gonna give you blisters.
Magazines like EGM must have been smoking something because this game deserves much more credit than it was given. I bought this baby cheap as a used gameboy game and I got a gem worth $49.99. I love having good tastes and having practically no money...
This 3-D shooter is all about playability, baby. You can pop that disk right into your dreamcast and push the power button and you are launched into instant FUN. Expendable packs mindless shooting and beautiful environments to equal one bad mama of a game.
Along side the practically non-existent story line, you can enjoy the frantic 2-player co-op experience along with a friend. Instant fun, once again. (We will get back to that later)
The weapons are almost as awesome as the enemies you will encounter on your adventure. I personally thought that the game could have done without the crumby spider looking aliens. Each of the bazillion weapons that you can get can be powered up(like shooting a 5 shot spread of lasers instead of just one).
Expendable has an overhead view and a more centered 3rd person view(used in only some parts of the game. This ingenuity is what I like to see in games.
This game, I have found, is the kind of game that you will play for 2 hours straight, put it down for three days, come back to it, play again, forget about it for another day and then come back for more.
It's rated Teen for it's mild gore. When you blast an enemy with your large machine gun, he explodes into a fountain of sparkling explosion and blood. This brings me to another great part of the game; explosions. With every explosion you are treated to a display of eye candy made possible by the Dreamcast's graphics. Beautiful.
Grab a friend, a foe, a cousin, your great grandma; hell, even your dog could play with you. You can work together through the single player game in 2 player mode. This is one of those games that you will find yourself playing long into the night with your friend.
Maybe it's because I picked Expendable up (used) for $14.99. Maybe it really IS this good. I'm not sure, but all I know is that I am in brainless-shooting heaven!
Buy this game, soldier.
