Dreamcast
Review by Joda
"IT'S THINKING!"
I only recently bought this system (February 2001 to be exact) but I wanted this sytem since the 9/9/99 commercials started. When I saw Sonic Adventure, I knew I had to have it. But, it is so sad that the Dreamcast will cease to exist within a year or two. By means of no new games...
Game Selection (10/10): First off, if you don't think that the Dreamcast has good games, then you are on drugs. It has Shenmue, no description is needed since it rules enough... Sonic Adventure, I don't know of a Sonic game that sucks. Phantasy Star Online, the first online role playing game on a console. There are a lot of other games, like Crazy Taxi, but these games alone are worth getting the Dreamcast for.
Graphics (10/10): The graphics this baby can have kick major booty. But then again, graphics don't make the game, people do. Phantasy Star Online and Shenmue have the best graphics in my opinion.
Sound (10/10): I have played the Playsation 2 and the Dreamcast sounds a lot better in my opinion. Of coarse, a lot of people don't take advantage of sound in most games....
Design (10/10): This little machine is small, but can pack a punch. It also has that cool swirl on it... Hypnotizing it is...
Controller (10/10): I used to think the Playstation controller was the most comfortable but once I touched a Dreamcast controller, I thought differently. Trust me, don't judge a book by it's cover... Plus, the Dreamcast has two slots on it so you can have memory cards and/or rumble packs or a microphone. Plus, the Sega made memory cards have a screen on them so you can get data on them while playing a game, like moves in a fighting game...
Other (10/10): Sega was even considerate to give us a built in 56.6k modem (33.6k in Europe) to go online and play games or surf the web.
So, if you are one of those people who bought the hype of the Playstation 2, then shame on you. Go for the system which has better quality and games. So go out and pay the $99 and a game or two, the most expensive games now that I know of are Shenmue, Record of Lodoss War, Grandia 2, and Skies of Arcadia. They are only $40. Why pay $60 for some poor 64 game when Dreamcast is cheaper and better?
