Time Stalkers

Review by DreThug

"An Old RPG For The Dreamcast...Good = Not Exactly"

To tell you the truth, I am not a big fan of the rpg genre. I own Evolution for Dreamcast but I don't care for it at all. After playing Time Stalkers for a while, I would rather play Evolution than this game.

Time Stalkers graphics are decent at best. The main character, Sword, looks really nice and detailed but other parts of the game are just lacking. The dungeons are very plain and there is a lot of clipping issues. I have no clue why they made it so you can walk in to a wall and see yourself on the other side of it. The developers should have really fixed this up before releasing Time Stalkers.

When I got Time Stalkers I was hoping for some good gameplay out of it. Sadly, I didn't get it. If I'm correct, you're suppose to get a lot of items before entering dungeons in rpgs. For some reason, there are just a few items to get before entering dungeons. Also, the dungeons are randomize for some strange reason to make this game even less fun to play.

The control in Time Stalkers isn't bad at all. Controlling Sword is as easy as pie and the fighting system isn't hard to get use to. The only thing I didn't like about Time Stalkers (control-wise) was walking close to walls. If you ever walked in to walls, you could see yourself through the other side. For some reason, it gave me a headache, so I had to make sure I walked in a straight line.

Sound-wise, Time Stalkers is alright. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to read all the dialogue. May be I'm just use to playing games where the characters actually talk but I was disappointed with reading what my character was talking about. Other than that, the sound isn't bad at all.

Time Stalkers is a decent rpg game. If you are a casual rpg player go look for another rpg game. If you are a hardcore rpg gamer and would like a game that you can play with for a couple of days, go rent this game at your local Blockbuster and see what you think. Now that this game is pretty old, you can probably pick it up for 9 bucks at your local video game store.
