Dreamcast
Review by Da VideoGuy
"The console with the most features ever."
Introduction:
Sega is one good company. It is also one underrated company. All the systems were good. Saturn just didn't have enough games, but had some revolutionary ones that didn't get an audience, like Dragon Force, Shining Force III, Panzer Dragoon Saga and the like. For $30, Saturn isn't a bad deal. They games are WAY cheap(Vitrua Cop is $2 at FuncoLand), and good quality too. Dreamcast did WAY better than the Saturn, but did go downhill. Plainly, I think it's an excellent system, and it deserved to last a LONG time. The Dreamcast could go online, and not only that, you could DOWNLOAD software, burn them on a CD, and run it on a Dreamcast! I had LINUX on Dreamcast for Pete's Sake! And also you can download emulators for it, and have a big ROM library on one CD. Wish another Nex-Gen system could do that too. Can PS2 run Linux, with NetBSD and configure your college account? Uh, no. Dreamcast isn't only games, and it has a HUGE library with the ROMs included. It can even run N64 games! Can GameCube, X-Box, or PS2 do that? No. Dreamcast almost got a DVD adapter, but it didn't because the company was screwed. That would've been nice. Look at this...all this on the Dreamcast. Read on to find out more.
Graphics: 10
People are already claiming PS2 is the greatest system because of the GRAPHICS. But in a way, PS2 needed a graphics enhancement that the Dreamcast HAS. That is Anti-Aliasing. See all those jaggies in PS2 games? Yup, that's what the Anti-Aliasing fixes. In DOA2 Hardcore for PS2, see how it's all pixely, and the textures sometimes move around? Yup, that's what the Anti-Aliasing fixes. The DC DOA2 is even SMOOTHER and BETTER LOOKING. And that's the reason WHY PSX games can't run any better on a PS2! Meaning, balanced out, DC and PS2 graphics technically have the same rating.
Sound: Rating N/A
Usually sound isn't something you rate, but it sounds and runs just like any other digital sound formatted system.
Controller: 7
I personally think the controller is fine. The only flaw is that it's big, and that's not a BIG problem but is a problem to some people. But what I REALLY like is when you put your VMU(mentioned later) in the first slot and it makes a little screen in the controller which shows your stats and other things, like in RE: Code Veronica, it shows your health, so you don't have to go to the menu to check your health rating. But another thing that STINKS, is how the Analog Stick and D-Pad are in different positions for your left thumb, making the feel switching between them feel a little akward.
Games: 9
The games are FANTASTIC. They are about the same quality as PSX games, just in lower numbers. Not only that, some of the games allow you to go online(a good number of them too). Phantasy Star Online is one of the most addicting games ever because of it's online capabilities. Online is the future of gaming, which the Dreamcast delivers!
KNOWN FACT: The Dreamcast, being only 2 years old, has twice as many games now as the N64 being 6 years old!
Features: 10++++++++++++++
Geez, need I say something? First, let me start out with the VMU. You can do many things with it. First, you can plug it into your controller and have an extra screen for your games. Two, you can take it OUT and use it like a Game Boy. Three, where do I get the games? On the internet! Your DC comes with a 56k modem and can hook up to the Internet and download VMU games to your VMU. The internet options are unlimited, checking e-mail, surfing the web, configuring accounts, GameFAQs :). Dreamcast is ALSO a WebTV, though I still use my computer. You can buy a keyboard for you games and internet too.
Here are some things that you won't BELIEVE you can do on DC. Linux, NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Game Boy, Genesis, Saturn, NetBSD, Telnet, N64, FREE Mp3 Players, VIDEO players(MPEGs, AVIs, etc on ur DC with sound), Game Boy ADVANCE, PSX. And not only those, you can download Quake 1, and Doom. The Quake1 download though requires you to have the full version already, so you use that, and THEN you can even use your mods and use your modem for Broadband! Doom has no broadband support, but can support Heretic and Hexen, and Mods for that AND Heretic and Hexen. Cool huh? Can you do that PS2? All on Dreamcast my friend. All on Dreamcast.
Rent or Buy?
BUY BUY! Low price(99.95) and even comes with the Sega Smash Pack, which has Genesis and Saturn games(like Virtua Cop with GUN support!). So what are you waiting for? GO OUT AND BUY YOURSELF A DREAMCAST!!!!
