Outtrigger
Review by ZokeThe2nd
"No more! Please,no more!"
God.I can't belive I was excited about this game. ''Hooray! I got OutTrigger! This is going to be cool!'' ,I exclaimed. Wrong! I was WRONG! This game is bad on *sooo* many levels. I don't mean to just outright bash this game, but having played Unreal Tournament, I happen to know for a fact that my Dreamcast could do much, much better.Seriously. OutTrigger is a classic example of a company either rushing it's game out the door or not even caring if it's good or not. This is part of the reason why a lot of us guys want to be game testers. To stop THIS from happening. But,I guess it could be hard going up to your boss and saying you dont like it.
Production Team: So..how's OutTrigger..? ::smiling proudly::
You: Yeah..well..you see....
Fellow Tester: Total Crap.
You: Yeah.
Now thats awkward. But, enough ramblings and little jabs at the game when I can scare you far more with my actual review.
MULTIPLAYER FPS REVIEW SYSTEM
Gameplay/Level Design (3/10)
Lord help me.This has got to be the worst gameplay in an FPS ever.I know that your Multiplayer levels should be semi-small and have a few nice places to hide and such but this is rediculous. These levels are WAY to cramped and closed in, leaving the characters with the weaker defenses and faster guns to be hammered on by the strong guys with slower guns over and over again simply because there's nowhere to run. It's like they didn't plan the levels at all. Most are too cramped and the ones that are fairly spacious are pretty lame in and of themselves. In those places you dont get any nice spots to try and ''snipe'' from or any real places to hide and leap out at your opponents from, either.I've designed better multiplayer levels on the Duke Nukem 3D level editor than this. And *those* were meant to be for the single-player mode. And as for the gameplay,I dont see how it could get much worse. ill give it saving points for a few nice weapons, but every charrie has the SAME basic weapon setup.A light, ''normal'' gun like an Uzi or assault rifle that does pretty much the same damage,a grenade of some kind, and well..a rocket launcher, more or less. It's all the same. Not to mention the character designs suck and dont really look that interesting at all.No class.AND if that wasn't enough, two of the meager FOUR characters have the exact same stats. The manual doesnt explain it much more than that. They dont say why this guy has the same abilities than the other one. I guess it's just your hair color prefferance. Anyway, killing isn't so bad, the AI is not too terrible at times. Sometimes, you might end up getting killed before you can return fire, and that's annoying. The scoring system is lame, too. You get points for making a kill and more for picking up the medal that the corpse drops. This means you could win without making a single kill if you collect enough medals.Whoopie! Ugh.And single player? Nope.Dont bother. There are no ''regular'' single player modes where you can just go against the computer for a set amount of kills or time, it's all training modes. And you havent seen anything yet. Just about ALL the training missions are boring and repeditive, usually consisting of ''Kill (insert number) Terrorists in (insert time)'' with increasing difficulty. At least give us a reason why! Give us something interesting to go on! That brings us to..
Plot/Characters (1/10)
Nothing to speak of,really. I know most games like OT dont even try for a plot, but this one kinda did and it was pathetic. It exclaims that you work for some anti-terrorism organization and basicly...stop...terrorists.Duh.Well, that's it.Nothing but that. You'd expect to maybe go on some half-assed missions or something, like that FPS on the PS2 who's name escapes me right now.. (not a good sign for that game,eh?)..But no, you dont get anything. This game's version of single-player is those damn ''Training'' missions you go through.Enough with the training! Someday were going to *have* to go on an actual mission! And the characters are about worthless, too. No real background is given, and the designs, from an artists stand-point are really lacking, and look pretty stupid. It's hard to find one that suits you and we all know that you can't really get into a game when your piloting someone who looks like an eyesore. It's the whole teasing me with the being an anti-terrorist agent that got me PO'd the most.Don't tell us we're going to be killing baddies for justice when we're only going to be going to boot camp!
Sound/Music (1/10)
If I could give this a lower score,I'd do it.This is pathetic. The music is really lame, and to be honest, if you can't remember it then your not going to notice it in game all that much.Me, I want to rock out a bit, to have some music to get me pumping when im playing.Take the boss music from Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 3 (6J) and you can remember it right away. It get's you pumped and ready for the battle. Not so in this case. Just walk around and shoot someone with your rocket launcher, unable to pick up different weapons, and try not to throw your controller at the wall in absolute disgust for yourself for even playing this monstrosity.
Rent or Buy: Don't go near it.Borrow it from someone if your up for seeing how bad this is.
Controllers Broken: 0 (Doesn't merit getting angry over)
How long you'll play for: 15min
How long you'll regret playing for: Life
Most uttered phrase while playing: ''There's....so much evil in the world....''
Reviewers Score: 2/10
Summary: Please do not play this game.It lacks in every single department.
