Gauntlet Legends
Review by Captain J Whoosh
"Warriors, Wizards and Large Breasted Women Make A Great Game"
Every once and awhile, a game will come along so addicting you lose days and hours of your life. Gauntlet Legends is one of those games. You may even forget to eat and bathe it's that good.
STORY: 7/10
A jealous wizard calls upon an ancient demon for revenge on those he hates, loses control over him and the demon be begins his own path of destruction. It's up to you to stop him. Kind of a used story but it works.
Control: 10/10
Your character runs where you tell him/her to, fires when you tell them to and auto melee's. Very crisp and easy to learn.
Graphics: 8/10
They look real nice but aren't up to the standards of other DC games. From a distance, they look good but up close they kinda get choppy but thats not a real problem considering 95% of the game is a far away view.
SOUND/MUSIC: 10/10
Great in this department. Sumner's voice (the narrator of the game) is cool and easily understood. Your character ''umphs'' and ''uhhs'' when he or she is hit. You hear everything from enemies dying to your own footsteps.
GAMEPLAY: 10/10
This, in my opinion, is where GL really shines. You chose from 8 different classes and 4 different colors. Each character has his or her own positives and negatives to their class. The warrior and dwarf are strong in melee, but suck in magic. The Valkyrie and knight are strong in defence but not so hot in speed. The wizard and sorceress are great in magic, but blow in melee and finally the jester and archer are strong in speed, but lack defence. The color of your character has no effect on them other than personal preference. You gain levels as you kill enemies, thus allowing you to gain more life, more stats, and even a helper ( at 25+ ) to aid you in your quest.
REPLAY: 10/10
You can play this game 4 times till the end and it will not be the same twice if you use different classes. If you went through it as a warrior, try a wizard and use potions instead of your brawny right arm. With huge levels, hidden switches and fake walls, you will almost always find something new each time you play.
OVERALL: 10/10
Overall, any DC owner should have this game. Its great for RPG nuts with the level gaining ability and good for action fans do to the hack n slash part of it. It's even better with 2-4 players and really adds to the fun factor. I suggest you at least rent it because its one of the best titles for the DC.
