Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2
Review by NaRanGa Racing
"Finally, A Game That Fires On All Cylinders"
Finally a great street-racing games is here! You can have your dream car and hook it up without shelling out a few thousand dollars. It can all be done on Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2, one of the best racing games available on Dreamcast. However, it does have minor flaws.
Here is a game where you can customize your car, you can even choose the color, that's right...Any Color! Just bring it to the paint shop. An assortment of side skirts, rear and front bumper kits are available, as well as different style mufflers. You can even create your own decals, change your rims (the color and style), as well as perform engine upgrades.
For ''The Fast and The Furious'' fans, almost all the major cars can be reproduced. The RX-7, Skyline GT-R, 240 SX, Eclipse, and my favorite the Supra is within reach!! The TRD hood is available for the Supra, and like I said, that cool orange color can be attained! The GT racing wing is also available.
The graphics are very smooth, and the replays are great. If you have ever street-raced, this game is a reality, with strobbing head lights and flashing hazard lights, as well as rival racers and racing teams! The sound is ok, the game has some killer soundtracks, and some not worth listening to (but doesn't every game?).
The Flaws: As far as the engine upgrades go, it must be purchased in a bundle, there is no separate turbo kit you can purchase aside from the engine upgrade. What upset me the most is that there is no NOS available in the game. The handling is not very real, but semi-real. When you crash into a wall at high speeds you are reduced to a speed of 50 mph, as compared to the computer when they do the same have no problem maintaining their high speed. Also, auto-pilot can be annoying at times, it can take over in the race setup scene and you may end up crashing into a wall before the race even starts!
But all in all, it is a great game and if you like racing you should go out and buy it. This game can't be compared to PlayStation's Gran Turismo series, because this is a STREET-RACING GAME! NOT...I repeat...NOT A TRACK RACING GAME! I wish more racing games were like this. More could have been done to make this game better, but I still give this game a 10/10
