Armada
Review by Amakusa42
"More fun than you can imagine!"
I was looking at IGN.com for a new game for my Dreamcast and saw it gave high marks to a game called Armada. I took a look at the screen shots and said: "What the hell is this thing, Asteroids?" And as it tunrs out, I was right.
You see, i have faith in IGN.com, so i went to EB and shelled out 53 bucks for the game (retaining the receipt, just in case it DID suck). 5 minutes into playing the game. I tossed out the reciept, and called my friends for a little 4 player blow everything up session.
Make no mistake, this is a shoot em up/RPG. Its the FIRST RPG to hit the states for the Dreamcast, its also the first 4 player RPG i know of. on top of all that its a heck of a lot of fun, and it only takes 6 blocks on yer VMU. So what are you waiting for? Go buy it!
Graphics-8: nothing impressive here. Most of the details are small though, and each ship and ship upgrade is cool, Lots of Kudos, because even in a 4 player battle with tons of enemies/explosions on screen, there isnt even a hint of slowdown. Of course, for such a simple game thats not too tough.
Sound-10: Monster types each have a unique sound, and each ship who is allied with you has thier own unique voice. explosions sound great too!
Camera-9: simplistic top down view. hey it gets the job done.
Controls-8: Lost 2 points for not being configurable. Othewirse fine.
Gameplay-10: addictive little bugger. Its more fun in multiplayer though.
Overall-9: BUY THIS GAME!
-Amakusa wants sleep, but he just needs a few more credits before he can buy that last power-up... Oh look the sun is coming up.
