Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Review by Kaine76X
"Awesome in the arcade, and awesome on the Dreamcast!"
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, is one of the best fighting games around. And it is what I believe to be the best fighting game that Capcom has produced. To it has a huge assortment of characters from several different Capcom series, which include Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Megaman, and Tron Bon along with a lot of other different Capcom series. It also has characters from the Marvel universe who I'd never expect to be in a fighting game, and seeing all of these characters is really cool. It has tons and tons of Marvel characters, everyone for The Incredible Hulk, to Cable for the X-Men series, and all the way down to guys like Spiderman and Venom, this game has the most extensive list of characters that you can find in any fighting game.
This in not only a very innovative game, but it also adds a new feel to fighting games that use a team format. The way Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 has it's battles are in a 3 on 3 format. It may sound a little different from most fighting game, but the battle system is actually one of the best ever. And even though the game has been in the arcade for several years it still remains to be an extremly popular game, and it has been ported to three other systems besides the Dreamcast. And everyone I know that enjoys fighting games is going to absolutly loves this game. Any way onto the actual review.
Game play 10/10
As I already mentioned before, this game has one of the best fighting systems that you can find in any fighting game out there. The three 3 on 3 system allows you to have 1,000's upon 1,000's of team possibilities. Not to mention that your team has the ability to preform each of characters on the team's Supermeter all at the same time, it is very cool to see one of these triple teams in action and it definitely adds a cool new feel to fighting games. I can only hope that Capcom can produce a Marvel vs. Capcom 3, who know what Capcom will think of for that. In any case, the game play for Marvel vs Capcom 2 is awesome and deserves a perfect 10.
Controls 10/10
The controls are very receptive, as most fighting games are. They are good enough to be able to perform high numbered combos, and I have never had a problem with the controls so it gets a 10.
Sound 10/10
The music in the game is awesome, and easily gets the ten.
Fun Factor 9/10
This is one of the best fighting games ever made, it's definitely fun to play for points to earn characters, and test out different teams. The game is is a lot of fun, and if you someone to play it with, then it can provide for endless hours of gameplay. The way this game plays makes it seem just better than most fighting games.
Replay Value 7/10
Even though it can provide many hours of gameplay with the time you use trying to earning all the character and all of the costumes. But once you do that there really isn't that much more to do. If you have a second player then it can be a lot of fun. However if you don't happen to have a second player, then all you can really do is just keep playing against the computer, not as if there is anything wrong with that but like all fighting games it get repetitive
after a couple thousand battles.
Although I don't want to say they it won't provide much game time or anything, because I spent quiet a lot of time playing this game, in fact earning all the characters and all of the costumes for each character should take quiet a while. In fact it took me somewhere in the range of 20 full hours to earn enough points to earn everything. And I also played the game against my brother quite a lot, but when he went off to college I just didn't seem to want to play is as much before. It's fun but after testing out enough characters it just gets a little boring.
Anyway, onto the grading for the review...
The way my grading system works is in four parts, controls and sound combined equals one part. So in the breakdown is Gameplay-10, Sound and Control-10, Fun Factor-9, and Replay Value-9. So that comes out to a total 36 out of 40 total points, thus earning a grade of 9 of 10.
There is a good chance that you probably played this game as long as you ever stepped foot in any arcade. The game is definitely on of the best fighters out there, and if you happened to have never played, get it. Not only has it been made for the Dreamcast, but has also been ported on the PS2, Gamecube, and the X-Box. It's an awesome game and if you haven't played it before then get it, you will not regret it.
