Sega GT
Review by RStevenson
"Sega's answer to Gran Turismo 2 is here!!"
If you liked Gran Turismo 2 (GT2) on the Playstation and you have a Import DC, then now's your chance to enjoy the best of both worlds. Sega GT offers cutting edge graphics, realistic driving mechanics, beautiful tracks and a fun upgrade system.
Graphics: Smooth and detailed with excellent lighting effects. Some of the car models are not quite as good as Sony's (GT2) but the difference is minimal. The tracks are more detailed than GT2 so that makes up for it.
Sound: Play it with headphones with options set to Stereo for full enjoyment. Music is very good and engine noises are good while not as good as GT2.
Interface: Main Menu entries are all in English while descriptive text is in Japanese. I found it easy to navigate and quick.
Gameplay: Much like GT2, it offers a quick Single Race style or the full Championship mode. In Single Races you can select from the full arsenal of cars or earn & unlock them in Championship mode. An added treat is the mode that allows you, for a price, to build your own car by selecting the car class, engine size & type, drivetype, body, etc. There are several categories of races, some of which reward only trophies, some money and some unlock car bodies to be selected when building a car.
Replay Value: There is a considerable amount to unlock in this game and with the ability to build your own, very unique car and even trade cars with a friend, this racing game will keep you playing for quite a while.
Why is it a 9 and not a 10? Well, I wanted to give it a 9.5 but the score doesn't allow fractions and the few tiny flaws in the game kept it from being a perfect 10. (Example: There's a little annoying quirk with the computer cars that happens when you bump into them from behind or even the rear fender. It shoots them forward and sometimes you don't catch up to them after that happens.)
Like I said, 9.5 and I highle recommend it. If you don't have a IMPORT DC, or it isn't modified, when the US version of Sega GT comes out, don't miss it!!
